3rd Party is a new project from Matt Kowall (AKA EZ Jam) and electronic music veteran Mark Hawkins, which is abstract Bass-music focused. 

This debut outing focuses squarely on updating the early 90s Jungle paradigm with more modern sound design, that additionally draws influence from grime, and other more contemporary sounds, with an attention to maintaining high levels of production, guaranteed to bang any system it’s played on.

These two cuts reframe and breath new life into the breakbeat aesthetic, by seeking out new drum breaks to cut up, rather than just rinsing out the tired usage of the legendary Amen break, but nevertheless remaining very much in the same ball park as the much used sample that was originally performed by soul group The Winstons way back in 1969.

So, as always, play it loud, annoy your neighbours, crank it up on the car stereo with your windows down at the red traffic light and enjoy!

Exocet is a much older piece, dating back a full seven years, which is reflected by the more restrained pace, and refusal to adhere to clichéd tropes, clinging on to the old adage  popularised by Jeff Mills, when he was quoted as saying that Techno should be “sounds that you’ve never heard before”.

Dark Energy reframes the early nineties upbeat euro-with-a-hint-of-detroit sound, counterbalanced with slick 21st century production values, it’s frantic 144bpm tempo likely to appeal to the new generation of thrill seeking techno kids looking for something to raise their pulses.

The venue was far too busy. Smoke filled every coner of the room and condensation dripped from the ceiling. He had no idea where his friend had vanished to. Somewhere within the crowd she was now lost to the mercy of music and movement. As he looked through the body of shadows he could see very little which might give any indication as to her whereabouts. He started to panic, started to dance because he had little choice and continued to move between the sea of darkness. He needed her now, his friend. 

Kerem Akdag appears on a new EP for Apparel Music as part of a sixth birthday release edition. His charming take on a sound which has been commonly associated with South London sees him get deep.

Baba Stiltz-on-Studio Barnhus is an ongoing series of records that both define our label and constitute a sort of independent, freewheeling sidetrack to its narrative. From the tempo-bending noise-house of his 2013 label debut Our Girls, to this new Is Everything EP, his eighth original Studio Barnhus release, our buddy Baba has never not amazed us with his unpredictable methods, rigorous work ethic and life-changing trax.

On this particular record: Icy techno soul, actual r'n'b, the real future funk! An opportune start to '17 for us and Baba, who's looking forward to a year filled with a variety of record releases, collaborations, dj nights and live shows.

Failsafe is a new label created by, and primarily for the release of, material by Juxta Position, who’s output was previously featured on Rhythm Nation, and on DVS1’s Mistress Recordings imprint. 

Juxta Position first came to the attention of the electronic music world in 2013, with the release of “Juxta Position Vol 1” on Mistress. This debut release contained the widely popular track “Mercy”, which was featured on Midland’s RA Mix, licenced to Deetron’s fabric 76 DJ mix release, and found it’s way into the crates of many different DJs across the spectrum of house and techno.

Inaugurating the first Failsafe release, Juxta Position delivers two slices of upfront hypnotic techno, custom made for cutting edge DJs to provide maximum dancefloor damage.

Next up in this ongoing split-ep series are two equally talented producers from different ends of the spectrum, both sharing their unique viewpoints on that special dreamspace of self-awareness and how the way there actually sounds like!

Following his explosive Figure-EP just this recent summer, @juxta-position-1 now reveals his more sublime side on these two technoid journeys. Keeping it raw and beautiful, the analogue lover lets his synths engage in dialogue, floating through murky realms and simply getting lost in the groove. 

A new face for Figure and definitely one to watch is @pablo-mateo-10. Taking a likewise subtle yet distinctly more grounded approach, his tunes unfold slowly and each tell their entirely own storyline. Tomo is an extraordinary specimen of how a track grows past its confines, into something genuinely touching and can eventually open up that space inside and what lies beyond!

Joining forces for the first time are label founder Len Faki and Juxta Position, a rather fresh yet already integral member of Figure. How effectively the prolific producers worked them machines with combined strength shows in every fiber of this four-tracker.

The record‘s sides feature two alternate mixes of each track: Superstition tempts with is sultry vocal, driven by an irresistible acidic groove, fusing Juxta Position’s preference for rough and analogue sounds with the tight programming Len Faki has become renowned for. Paying tribute to UK’s gritty brand of warehouse-techno, A2 introduces a more swinging and all-out version of the track.

A lot more tender than its counterpart, Gathering Clouds slowly builds from jagged synths and droning basses, brewing up a vivid tempest of anticipation. Verging carefully on the moment of emotional release, we are left to imagine the theatrical scenery cooked up in this delicious blend of the two artists’ singular skills.
