"'I heard you were moving' is the culmination of a process that began with sharing field recordings from our respective locations and ended with the four of us layering our musical ideas to create the sound of a group. The piece contains three distinct sections that can be interpreted however the listener may choose. For us, each section represents a different time, place, or feeling that we all have shared throughout the last month of collaboration. This process has taught us all a lot about how remote collaboration can work. While we were never able to perform together in the same place, the music that has emerged out of this has formed its own distinct quality of togetherness."

With the upcoming 8(!) year anniversary of "carols", I have been revisiting the album. Tis the season. It is still one of my proudest works. An alternative vision of "seasonal music" it is a celebration of the natural world and the human experience of living through the winter. But good news, you can listen to it any time of year. 
The tracks fit together and recall each other, sharing many elements that link tracks to each other across the full suite. I imagine it like an ecosystem, and hope that listeners might enjoy finding the "puzzle pieces" that link things together. 
One such "piece" I am sharing today is to help identify the beat structure of the opening track, "intro/gust". The final track to be created for the album, it links the opening synth line from "first light" with the syncopated kicks and hi hat from "fire in the night", but with extra syncopations and nothing really to hold onto to make the beat make any sense to new listeners. Some introduction! Joyous and boisterous, it blasts in and out quickly like a gust of wind. I have created an "answer key mix" adding percussion to show where the actual pulse is.

After a bit of a hiatus from electronic music production, JVZ is returning to the exercise of making daily tracks, using the same principles as the "Collection 03" sessions: Each track is limited to one hour of work, and one track must be made per day. These tracks are a bit longer: where the sept/oct 2017 sessions had a minimum track length of 30 seconds, these tracks are intended to be closer to a minute and up to two minutes. 
This is a means to flush out ideas, re-train to a commitment to music making, and ideally to get into a creative flow again. 
At this time JVZ intends to make each week's accumulation of tracks into a single mix, and release each mix on soundcloud at the end of each week. So stay tuned!

Second installment of the summer 2019 daily tracks project! 

Some notes from this week: "It has been tempting to spend more than an hour on each track, and I'm feeling a bit more picky in general now that the intention is to make them a minute or longer (and to share them!). The 30 second project was liberating because it was such a short length it didn't seem to matter how strange or silly the content was, but in this case it seems to warrant more consideration. Strange and silly things are inevitable with a project like this either way, and that's part of the fun.
An hour every day is a lot, especially when things get busy, and on one or two occasions the commitment meant a late night. Maybe better scheduling is in order, or I will change the "rules" after seeing the commitment thru for a bit longer. At any rate, this one contains eight tracks - a bonus track is included at the end.

LAZARUS TRAXXON - Daily Trx Mix 02 - Jul 06 - Jul 12, 2019

Third and final (for now) installment of the summer 2019 daily tracks project! 

Some notes: "The intention to publish the tracks at the end of each week eventually made me too self-conscious, to the point that I was spending more than an hour on each track, going back and fixing things the following day, the way I would do with normal productions. Originally this project was supposed to be spontaneous and loose, cranking things out without a chance to think too much about it, so with all the extra editing it wasn't the exercise it was meant to be anymore. If I decide to resume the project it will be a private thing again, with the possibility of sharing them in the end, depending how it goes - as it went with 'Collection 03'.
It has been fun. I hope you can hear my sense of humour in these daily tracks projects maybe a bit more than my other stuff, and in the end there's always that touch of bittersweet. Thanks to those who have tuned in and I'll keep you posted with further updates!"
