“All is Calm” is a fantasia on a single simple motive: the first four notes of “Silent Night.” Originally for solo piano, this orchestration explores the idiomatic colors of the wind ensemble in various combinations. Built on quartal and quintal harmonies, the sense of calm in the piece ranges from the peaceful to the majestic.
