We’ve been waiting for this one. A longtime friend from San Francisco and a force in the techno scene, JX-216 (formerly Milkplant) steps up for a Type III Podcast takeover.

A label boss, producer, live act, and seasoned DJ, JX-216 has shaped the sound of underground techno from the Midwest to the West Coast and beyond. His imprint, From 0-1, has been a breeding ground for cutting-edge techno, and his own productions are relentless in their intensity.

For this episode, he delivers a straight-up techno DJ set, guiding us through a maze of hypnotic, mesmerizing layers of sound. The mix moves through sinister, meditative soundscapes and aggressive leads that demand presence. His signature style synth lines and arps keep the tension tight, while wild hypnotism and deep groove settlement pull you further into the experience. Classic ripping rhythms and funky vocal signals push it all forward with unrelenting force.

This mix is pure, uncompromising energy, designed for those who seek the edge of techno.

Formerly known as Milkplant, JX-216 is a San Francisco based Techno DJ/Producer. Schooled in the Midwest and developed on the West Coast, his work encompasses well over 30 years of combined DJ/production experience, and nearly 20 years of record label management. 

In 2008 he began the label From 0-1 with fellow artist Sone, and since then has released dozens of well respected artists on vinyl, CD, and digital formats. His live pa and DJ sets have been seen in various cities across the US, and he’s released original music and remixes on Sleaze Records, BEK Audio, Blank Code, Children of Tomorrow, Devotion, Suara, Impact Mechanics, TMM, SUB_tl, Ascetic Ltd., Vexed Sphere, From 0-1, etc.

His productions have drawn the attention of many notable artists; showing up in mixes and charts by Dave Clarke, Ben Sims, Cari Lekebusch, Norman Nodge, Richie Hawtin, Randomer, Joachim Spieth, Tommy Four Seven, Krenzlin, Submerge, Tadeo, Mattias Fridell, Joton, Electric Indigo, Samuli Kemppi, Arnaud Le Texier, Patrick Skoog, Abstract Division, and many others. Notable remixers of his original tracks include Slam, Flug, Hans Bouffmyre, Gotshell, and HD Substance.

Run by JX-216 and Sone, From 0-1 is a well-known underground techno label from America that has featured artists like Operator (UK), Hans Bouffmyhre, and Echologist, also known as Brendon Moeller.

In addition to co-owning From 0-1, JX-216 is a producer based in San Francisco. Among his releases are Detroit's Blank Code, Coyu's Suara, Hans Bouffmyhre's Sleaze, Gary Beck's BEK Audio, and SUB tl by HD Substance.

For this DT:Premiere we selected "Pressure Vessel" that has a pummeling kick, throbbing bassline and percussion elements underlying mechanical synths, that swarm and expand for a raw, purist, sound with a menacing vibe.

Formerly known as Milkplant, JX-216 is a newer alias developed by San Francisco Techno DJ/Producer, Justin William Pennell over the last several years.  Schooled in the Midwest and developed on the West Coast, his work encompasses well over 30 years of combined DJ/production experience, and over 10 years of record label management.  In 2008 he began the well played label, From 0-1 with fellow artist Sone. 
His newly updated live pa debuted at the 2018 Droid and Blank Code Interface/Scene official Movement Festival event at The Works in Detroit; alongside Kr!z, DJ Hyperactive, Vril, Phase, Sophia Saze, and others. Several years into his new alias, he signed releases to Sleaze Records, BEK Audio, Impact Mechanics, TMM, SUB_tl, Ascetic Ltd., Devotion, Children of Tomorrow, Vexed Sphere, and his own From 0-1. As Milkplant, he released on Planet Rhythm, Wall Music, From 0-1, and Excise. His productions have drawn critical acclaim from many notable artists; showing up in mixes and charts by Dave Clarke, Ben Sims, Cari Lekebusch, Norman Nodge, Richie Hawtin, Randomer, Joachim Spieth, Tommy Four Seven, Krenzlin, Submerge, Tadeo, Mattias Fridell, Joton, Electric Indigo, David Meiser, Samuli Kemppi, Arnaud Le Texier, Patrick Skoog, Abstract Division, and others.
