Collie River Hydrophone Recordings Booth St Site 01/03/2022

This piece was inspired by the soundwalks of Hildegard Westerkamp as an exploration of ecoacoustical concepts and the impact of technophony on the wider environment. The calls of kulbardi and the western gerygone were contrasted against a crescendo of technophonic chaos that collapses into a more harmonious combination of these melodies over a peaceful backdrop generated by the Max for Live plugin TreeTone.

Location: Lake Coogee, Spearwood. Turtles sighted one on top of the other in front of culvert at north end of lake over a period of ten minutes surfacing for air. Unidentified descending frequency also recorded.

Valley Dreaming

legs deep in a new swamp of static, no waves are your waves so the heart beats fast causing panic,
delusions can be washed, a cycle through the storm and you've got a new face more pragmatic, but decayed,
and so delayed is the bird of the soul on it's journey to the birthplace you recall,
to be free but never easy beats with ease but never pleasing, are our cross roads here retreating or are our needs just self defeating,
harmless is lessonless, a new dawn is always rising

C. quinquecarinatus: 

Small freshwater crayfish endemic to the south-west corner of Australia.

Their heads have five keels, two pairs of spines at rostrum, and none on their telsons.
 
Their chelipeds are rounded and narrow and are often speckled.

Through consumption of decaying organic matter, this species produces gnarly, squishy beats and contributes to the biodiversity of Australian electronic music.
