Real Balearic warmly welcomes a brand new artist to the roster. Not only a producer, but a writer, Music Consultant, broadcaster and many more talents, we present to you, The Sonic Emporium. With this, the most regularly used alias from DJ and producer Simon Stuart, the Newcastle based producer has released on labels such as Ignition, Join Our Club, Abode, Wax:On Music and Blindetonation Records, always delivering delightful sounds.

This single entitled 'Punta Galera' is the latest creation from The Sonic Emporium, which consists of two summer soaked and captivating downtempo tracks. The title track gradually builds up element by element with a warm synth pad that underlines the track. This is combined with a chime like catchy melody that twinkles and echos, whilst the gentle percussion glides through the serene landscape he has created. Field recordings of early morning birds help paint this picture, whilst the vocal sample tells a story of a woman's experience of living on Ibiza during its halcyon days in the late 80's.

Bringing an upbeat vibe to the release is 'Shape & Colour'. This retro feeling production has 80's style percussion and drums which push the track forward, along with an ascending fuzzy bass line. The bold piano stabs gradually morph into synth lines that glisten and glide around the hemisphere of the track.

This is a wonderful debut to Real Balearic and shows positive signs for the future.

Having recently relocated to Vancouver in the name of continuing our rhythmic voyage, we at XVI are pleased to bring you the first offering from London-based beatsmith "Munro". First up is BYOG (Crown Heights), a summery hip hop infused , uptempo head nodder. Featuring an abstract but undeniably addictive baseline, and driving, crisp drum pattern, completed with rich golden analogue textures  . On the flip side, SIBWIR is a deep, slow-mo chugger. It's uplifting chord pattern and spine tingling vocals provide an absolute summertime treat, perfect for hazy beach sessions.

Group Rhoda, the solo project of Mara Barenbaum, returns to Dark Entries with ‘Passing Shades’. An integral member of the Oakland electronic music scene, Barenbaum has been writing, performing, and plunging into oneiric depths as Group Rhoda since 2009. This is the project’s fourth LP, and the third time Barenbaum has collaborated with Dark Entries; previously on the Max & Mara LP ‘Less Ness’ in 2013 and the Group Rhoda LP ‘Wilderless’ in 2017.
Passing Shades is an investigation of the metaphysics of loss and the transitory nature of the material world. But it is not a grim collection; over 8 songs, Group Rhoda diverges through synthesizer-laden symphonics, four-to-the-floor inflections, and cosmic musings. Barenbaum’s striking voice and singular songcraft guide us through this labyrinth. Arpeggiated waltz “Flow” channels wisdom sought through martial arts; “Earthly Ark” sets a Margaret Atwood poem from the God Gardener’s Hymn Book to somber electronics. The vocoded canticle “Nevermore” is dedicated to the memory of a beloved cat. ‘Passing Shades’ is both mystifying and revelatory. Folk forms are echoed only to detour into the alien. Each song functions as both a fragment of a larger puzzle and a koan unto itself.

Group Rhoda - Twin Studies

In October last year Pete Josef's second album «I Rise With The Birds» came out. Now Sonar Kollektiv has decided to release four remixes of three different songs off the fantastic album. First of all there is the Jazzanova remix of «Giants», which almost completely gets rid of the vocals, but all the more absorbs the zeitgeist - a remix probably working perfectly for a group of battling breakdancers. The program continues with a remix by Pete Josef himself. The Englishman strips down «This Sun» to its basic structure, then simply building a modern Salsa track out of it. Which brings us to the remix by Friend Within. The Liverpool producer and Pete Josef have been friends for many years, dating back to a 2013 collaboration («The Work») that made it onto Disclosure's Mixmag mix CD. «Mainframe» sounds super fresh after Friend Within's rework and seems like the party banger we've been looking forward to for months! But what Feiertag finally takes the liberty of doing with his remix of «Giants» is beyond imagination. Far away from the original Feiertag's interpretation moves in dark downtempo realms - dubby and spheric at the same time. In short: Each of the four remixes is a small masterpiece on its own.
