From 03.07.23 "This one is for De La. This is tough. I've been streaming De La Soul's music all weekend (if you haven't been, PLEASE run up their discography's numbers on any and EVERY DSP you use), and to me, their music can be summed up in one word: sunshine. Maybe it's because it was a gorgeous spring day years ago when I ripped open the plastic wrap on my "Stakes is High" CD only to blast it on repeat in my car for hours....or maybe it's because I was obsessed with their track "Can't Call It" in the summer of 2014....but whatever the reason, their music means so much to me - "Dinninit" was on one of the first mixes I made almost 15 years ago (sheesh) that I had the confidence to share publicly (aka burning to CD/hand out/email to friends) - when I was figuring out this DJ thing. And whatever mood I'm in, I know I can bump any De La Soul track and smile."

All tracks from artists from the boogie down: the birthplace of this hip-hop thing. I didn't take it to the 70's and 80's because, to me, the artists in this mix really created and pioneered that underground Bronx sound. Basically, all tracks taken from  the "Diggin in the Crates" crew and affiliates discographies. Selections either feature a beat from a Bronx-born producer (Buckwild, Lord Finesse, Ahmad, Showbiz, etc.) or rapper (Fat Joe, KRS-One, and so on). Yeah, I know, Big L, O.C., and Milano aren't from the Bronx (I'm 99.9% sure Sadat X is), but they've been known to murder a Buckwild / Lord Finesse / Showbiz beat or two. Take the train uptown.
