This is sort of a study of childhood and time - I remember very well going to mass as a child, especially Christmas Eve mass, and it was always nearly tortuous for me. Time would elongate into what seemed like millennia; I would somehow never make it out of church, alive, still a child. I would leave as an adult because I'd be there forever. The ceilings were impossibly high - dizzying, even. The origins of sound and the reverberations they made were bewildering to me. I couldn't believe how huge this place was, and how long this ceremony was. I would drift into a sort of liminal, hypnagogic state as time slowed, and the cantor or singers would sing, the reverb drawing out slowly, forever...

Gabriel's Message

Belief Defect is the duo of two techno DJs and producers: Moe Espinosa – one of the co-founders of L.A.-based techno label Droid – and Luis Flores, originally from Guadalajara, Mexico and currently living in Berlin. The two met at a festival in Mexico and realized a mutual desire to explore the industrial, punk and drone corners of techno, inspired by the likes of Alessandro Cortini, Andy Stott and Fuck Buttons. Last year Belief Defect released their debut album Decadent and Depraved on the Raster label, and on February 8 they’ll be back with the Remixed 01 EP featuring reworks of album tracks by Cortini, Kangding Ray, Surachai and this one, an elegant take on the track “Deliverance” by Telefon Tel Aviv.
