2DB are back. For those who aren’t aware, this is the alter-ego of award-winning production team Drumsound & Bassline Smith. Yeah, them. With their legendary status in the D&B world and a string of high-profile releases, when these guys step into the studio, you want to pay attention.
First, the title track, Motion. Epic strings and piano instantly draw you into a cinematic landscape before the rasp of mid-range synths and a building kick-drum progression signal the arrival of the iron fist drop. As grinding bass weaves with tough drums, this just keeps building.
And that’s just the warm-up. Next we have Faith in You, with vocal snippets and bleeps swirling into the mix and evoking the old skool sensibility that the 2DB name is known for. And when the bass hits, it delivers an irresistible dose of twenty-first century funk
Then we go deeper. Pink Floyd is science fiction music. The dancefloor is taken on a journey through time, floating past elements from mid-nineties jungle and the many influences that era drew from. This is one for the true heads, for those that know.
Now, 2DB take you into the pure dancefloor vibes of Teethgrinder. When you want to inject some energy into the party, this provides the bouncing bassline and street-hard beats you’ll draw for.
And as if you needed more, we have a bonus: Paris-based DJ Yox’s rework of the classic Original Sound System Style. The junglist essence of the track is twisted into a state-of-the-filthy-art rave smasher that’s a perfect DJ weapon.
From the deep to the dirty, from the classic to the modern, the Technique bosses have packaged it all into a selection that’s guaranteed to get blasted through radios and speaker stacks worldwide.
