Robotek Reagan launches his own new creative multiverse Void Space Institute with a pair of sensual, emotional, “feel good to feel sad” and uplifting drum & bass tracks.

This creative endeavour will be home to everything from music to videos, art to fictional literature and philosophy which tell a science fiction story across the 13 universes of VSITM. Musically, the label will focus on a broad spectrum from techno to minimal, drum and bass to breaks, IDM to ambient and electronica from Robotek as well as a range of other signings. Robotek himself has been best known as one half of the now-disbanded Superfreq duo Dance Spirit. Over the years he has played the likes of fabric London, clubs in NYC and festivals like Coachella, Desert Hearts and Piknic Electronik. Currently based in LA, this new solo project sees him dip back into his roots as a sci-fi anime fanatic with a vital and varied new sound.

Says the artist, "We at VSITM are excited to push this first offering into the Divine Holomatrix Simulation just in time for Valentine’s Day, so make sure you have these songs ready to win over your lover’s passion for the day.”

Superb opener 'NXT2U(XTC)' aims to capture "the rush of feelings, the ecstasy of being next to your loved one, whether it’s merely your crush, a fling, or your true life partner and twin flame; that warmth that spreads out from your heart, that innocent fast beating and release of dopamine." It does that by layering up romantic chords with sweet and silky pads, warm bass and sensuous vocals.

The b-side is another tender song evoking the feelings and emotions two individuals experience when inescapably attracted to each other from across the room. It's a fantastically fluid drum & bass roller that oozes soul and seductive synth work, with heart-melting chords and well-treated vocals adding the romance.

On this evidence, Void Space Institute promises to be a fascinating new world of creativity.

Following his initial dark tribute to French Touch ‘Nightmare Disco’, we are beyond excited to welcome Karassimeon’s first full-fledged EP ‘Discoteca Oscura’ on Ritmo Fatale. 

Karassimeon’s unique sound embodies his conflicting obsessions : disco, EBM and dystopian movie scores. 

The ‘Discoteca Oscura’ is his imaginary representation of a dark club, somewhere between Berlin and Hell, where soulless creatures dance to martial rhythms infused with italo, synthwave & disco. 

Cabaret Mortel blends acid beats, disco stabs and haunting synth bass sequences. Karassimeon’s intention was to bring cinematic tension to the dancefloor, using some of his favorite weapons : TB-303, breakbeat samples, Juno 106 & the evil Pro-One 

Messa Nera is Karassimeon’s Italo manifesto. Inspired by the early 80s sound, with some Moroder-esque touches, this track depicts a dystopian world, where dancers gather in black masses, away from the secular world. 

Rendez-vous comes from an early encounter with Claude Lelouch’s short film “C’était un rendez-vous” from 1976. This short has been an obsession for years, and the pandemic was the right context for Karassimeon : locked for days in his studio, studying his gear and listening to his favorite movie scores all day long. The track has been mostly produced with his oldest hardware : a MK1 Korg MS20 coupled with an overdriven RE-201 Space Echo, a dusty Oberheim DX, as well as his beloved Juno-106 and Solina. 

Most of all, this production is a tribute to the composers who often teamed up with Claude Lelouch, such as Francis Lai. 

And to wrap all this up, who else could illustrate this ode to the Giallo era better than the master Eric Adrian Lee ! 

The American artist is behind most of Giallo Disco’s artworks, the number one label who’s bringing this sound and imagery to the dancefloor. It’s a true honor for us to finally work with him on this particular release. Now the Giallo incantation is complete. Let the ritual begin.

Andy Ash has been quietly sneaking out seriously good analogue-driven electronic music on some of the best underground labels for over a decade. The Liverpool-based producer, DJ and visual artist has graced the likes of Chicago’s Stilove4music, NYC’s On The Prowl, Sydney’s People Must Jam and has remixed Fantastic Man for Detroit label Kolour LTD amongst many others. The bottom line is that he’s definitely one of the UK’s unsung heroes when it comes to deep, raw, Chicago and Detroit-influenced house music and Delusions of Grandeur is proud to welcome him with an amazing three tracker entitled the Bottleneck EP.

The title track opens with snappy hats, flappy congas and sloppy baseline all sitting perfectly in the mix and with a looseness that is much harder to achieve that it may seem. A simple synth melody doubles up the bassline while an extra square wave lead adds that little extra hook without distracting us from the bouncing groove. With Bottleneck, less is definitely more.

Flipping over we have Hump, an altogether darker affair with a twisting acid line joining distorted 808 drums and tripped-out snippets of spoken word coming in and out of focus. The low-slung bumpy groove and spacey synth parts make this a compelling warehouse track which will draw everyone into it’s seductive confines.

Closing the release we have Actual Price, a shuffling, deep groover with rumbling low end and machine-like analogue synth part skipping around the crunchy beats. A cerebral yet punchy and dynamic closer to an excellent release!

Veteran Chicago House pioneer Boo Williams delivers stand out genre melding EP on Italian record label, NICEPEOPLE. The three track EP meanders through elements of house and techno with real depth. This is the “LOL” EP, landing January 2021 on vinyl, and you can happily say this one fully lives up to its expectations. 

The title track “LOL” chugs along with pure energy of sounds of the past, twisting beeps and bleeps whirring throughout. The shuffling drums make this one, brushing by as they continue to drive the opener. The clue is in the title here as Williams uses trippy samples of laughter which flash in and out throughout the duration. 

Next on the agenda is “Backwards Run”, a blissful deep and emotive encounter with Boo doing what he does best. Trickling synths and pads meander around a clean cut house arrangement, voices circle around the belly of the track making this another hypnotic outing. 

Elastic bass creates a sense of urgency in “Bangin Out”, the last of the EP which takes up the whole of the B-side. A real abrupt and direct track, the kind that leaves the crowd in a trance when utilised in the right moment, creating suspense in the club room before elevating to the next track. A tinge of acid and intelligent key arrangement enforcing more masterpiece material. 

This is Boo Williams at his finest once more, landing on a label that is not afraid to push a variety of sounds as long as the consistent quality is there. A real nod to sounds of the past, no egos in sight, just plain and simple effective dance floor sounds from one of the heroes of this vibe.
