Greek DJ & producer Mihalis Safras has a long history in electronic music, having had a huge impact on both the tech house and techno scenes. UK producer team Egoism and Moscow based Max Bett land on Great Stuff Recordings, with a bass heavy 2-tracker. With &#8220;Duplo&#8221; Egoism &amp; Max Bett are not trying to imitate or reanimate classic house ideas, instead they are focusing on a forward thinking and fresh approach. The title track &#8220;Duplo&#8221; is wrapped around buzzing bass sounds, cleverly programmed percussions and mind-bending layers of FX. The female vocal snippets provide the track with an extra amount of erotic energy. The slighty deeper &#8220;Give It To Me&#8221; track sucks you into a groove of hypnotizing cow bell patterns, pounding snare rolls and an interesting bassline construct. Last spotted on Dirtybird brandishing a switch-flipping, warehouse-busting acid house remix of Kill Frenzy’s massive ‘Make That Booty Clap’, ZDS, AKA Nat Self, returns with his very own full EP. Ladies and gentlemen, make way for ‘Hands’. 

Perfecting his dancefloor dynamism for many years on labels such as Made To Play, Sound Pellegrino, Suara, Defected and Dirtybird, ZDS has primed each of these three cuts with nothing but the party in mind. Each one comes with its own story, let’s get handy… 

‘Hands’: A track to bring sunshine and light to the dancefloor, something to lift you. Nat actually made this specifically to mix with VonStroke’s beautiful ‘Can’t Wait’. Claude loved it so much he signed it as the A-side. Nat’s been road-testing it all summer to great effect. In his own words, he “nearly peed his pants at the reaction to it in Kazantip.”

‘Bang Ze Box’: Ghetto house with a classy polish of timeless house funk, ‘Bang Ze Box’ is undiluted, darkroom audio deviousness. Jesse Rose, Heidi and Eats Everything are already card carrying fans. The minute you hear its infectiously undulating bass groove, you will be too. 

‘Drop’: VonStroke recognised the slinky, sexy bass mischief of this third cut. Deep, penetrative and smothered in sub bass, there’s a subtle sense of euphoria by way of a steadily rising synth line that neatly counters the nagging sea of low end riffage. Its already been receiving some great early reactions and something tells us there’ll be much more by the time ‘Drop’ gains the momentum it deserves. 

Three superb cuts from one of the UK’s most respected house producers. Usually you’re asked to throw up some hands and show some love. Well this time we’re throwing you some ‘Hands’. Big love.

ZDS - Drop [Preview]

HARDER... DARKER... STRONGER... was the tag-line and “Disconnect/Reconnect”, the third studio album from The Japanese Popstars, garnered plenty of critical praise and won the hearts and minds of many forward-thinking music fans throughout 2013, proving to be a big success for John Digweed’s Bedrock label. So fittingly, it falls to Gary Curran and Gareth Donoghue to kick-off the 2014 release schedule with a timely revisit to three of the album’s boldest tracks, with superb heavy-duty remixes from London based Sharooz and Barcelona’s Coyu.

The mighty and melodic “Vision” and insanely noisy “Heavy Hitter” battle it out to see who can become Techno champion of the world, a duel that can only result in them both sharing the podium, being so distinctly different in attitude and being unforgettably memorable. It was the original version of “Matter Of Time” (featuring Green Velvet on vocals) that took the 2012 IMS by storm, catching the ears of Laurent Garnier, Francois K, Carl Cox and John Digweed, who promptly signed TJP to Bedrock. Now, for 2014, it reappears with a suitably massive Coyu Remix. With his Suara label currently one of the most prominent imprints in the world of Techno, Coyu’s pedigree is of the highest order and he stands as one of the most charted artists in Resident Advisor's history. Sharooz (owner of La Bombe), whose recent tracks on GND Records have been flying high, is no slouch either! His decidedly twisted remix of “Heavy Hitter” is impressive in the extreme and will no doubt be causing chaos everywhere it lands.

There can be no doubt, that this next salvo from The Japanese Popstars is destined to be heard in the dirtiest of dark rooms and at the biggest nocturnal festival shows worldwide, throughout 2014 and beyond. These boys are on fire and have their gaze fixed firmly on the future.
