Longing (Remix)

I have to thank Kenneth at K2 and the Three for contacting me about a collaboration. Without him (and his killer drums & bass) and Tex Mex Shaman (Stephen – fantastic sound on that guitar), I may never have known what one of my songs could sound like with proper playing and production. This song began with Ken and Joseph liking each other’s music. Ken invited Joseph to collaborate. He provided such a wonderful song, that maybe sounds better without drums, but we totally dig this version, as well! Ken asked Stephen to add something special, and for a fantastic third party mix down and master! This is the first collaboration with a couple of the Eclectic Collective collaborators.. we hope you all enjoy it!!

Ok so track filled. Added Celtic Harp, Classical Guitar and strings via Keyboard 

Theres a nice point here. So I used the phone recording, imported to the daw and it became the base and click track for the song. It's a nice way of locking in your human time but still filling over it and getting a full tune with more instrumentation. For those ideas your not at the studio and plugged up... 

Android I end up with an m4a - convert to wav for free online (usually fixes bitrate issues) - import to daw audio track - turn off tempo and click track - Your jam just became the click track. Playing to this only then allows you to lock into your feel again as opposed to recreating the whole thing to a click track from scratch...



On the human time... I was chatting with my best friend Anto the other day. He's a fabulous photographer. He shoots only film and uses an eye piece view finder still. He says it feels more instinctual to him. I feel similarly recording things on the spot in random places... You're playing to your instincts which can be spiritually way more creative I think then sitting down and doing it by sums. Both have their merits but starting more regularly in the former more natural way may offer more instinctual goodies. The method part of the process can always iron out and perfect the unusual things you find instinctually in hindsight when further along the process and it's all getting stitched.


To give the phone recording sufficient presence I add reverb 80%20%/compressor for acoustic guitar/EQed for Vocal/Light Stereo Spread for LF & HF. Then I double tracked it each panned slightly either side. The difference is actually a pretty cool example of cleaning something up for use. Recording wasn't changed aside from the dynamics
