This week on FMB Mixtape Series, we’re happy to welcome the vinyl-only DJ & music producer, Tarkno, hailing from Australia. As always, we first caught up to find out more about the mix & what he’s been up to lately…

I am currently getting ready to head back on tour in Europe and play some exciting events. This means a lot of packing, organizing and planning has been taking place.

The mix was actually recorded back in my home studio, in Melbourne, Australia during my holiday break. This gave me access to my entire record collection, so I made sure to select some hidden gems that hadn’t made their way into my bag yet. 

The idea for this mix was to play strictly old school tools from my personal collection. All of the records resonate deeply with me, embodying the true sound of underground techno. While the mix has a consistent theme I made sure to include a few staple tracks that I have enjoyed playing out recently.

FMB MIXTAPE 231 | TARKNO

Fury. An aggressive techno mix I recorded to release my anger and frustration from the continual injustices that has been happening for centuries. A tribute to the Black communities that pioneered almost every genre I love and in this case House and Techno. Since the conception of Techno in Detroit, it has always been a genre that sonically revolutionizes itself and is constantly forward thinking. Although this mix is on the European side, the roots of it stays true. The growth of this particular sound was from the political divide of the Berlin wall and the anger of the East Berliners who brought their expressed oppression to the production of the heavy sound. Our current wall we all must conquer and destroy is racial inequality. If there's anything I've learned from attending these dance events is that the music and the dance floor opens up a space for freedom of expression without judgement regardless of the color of your skin, sexual orientation or religious beliefs. We must all come together and unite especially when our leader is doing everything in his power to divide us. Peacefully protest, sign petitions, educate yourselves friends and family and donate to organizations that help this cause. Let's fight and reform this corrupt system for the sake of humanity. Black Lives Matter.
