Hazy orange words buzzed on the screens around the airport, line after line read the same word: 'Delayed'. She sat on the floor amongst all the other disgruntled customers, pondering how long she'd be here before an update sounded across the tannoy. She had always hated travelling but she didn't mind waiting. It offered time for thought and contemplation, and that had become something of a rarity nowadays...

Glasgwegian native Andy Graham AKA Sei A returns to his regular home Aus Music for what marks his fourth studio album, Kinetic Action, and the first full length since 2016's Space In Your Mind. Known for his ability to weave subtle melodies throughout his productions, be it sparse dub or hypnotic techno, Sei A has crafted a distinct sound that shines across his lengthy discography. Alongside the album, Aus Music call on the remix duties of two UK techno mainstays, Surgeon and Hodge, who each bring their razor sharp touch to the originals.

The Russian electronic music scene falls within the ones that have hastily been flourishing and gaining recognition over the past years. Representative of an endless willingness to experiment and boundless creativity, we invited an artist who immaculately embodies this versatile and underground mindset: the hometown boy from Nizhny Novgorod a.k.a. Low Tape. As a producer, he has been unbelievably unstoppable lately, building a solid catalogue of underrated jams. First embracing the lo-fi house wave 5 years ago, his current sound has evolved into a leftfield lo-fi/electro crowned with a dusty acid signature. Always on a quest to push boundaries and deliver forward-thinking beats, he has his very own secret formula that makes his interpretation of dance music truly unique. No surprise that his productions have rapidly been appraised by top labels such as Nerang Recordings or Neoviolence.

As usual, his mix magically brings us in a mind-altering and hypnotic trip filled with nostalgia and intensity. The well-crafted vibes from Trinidadian Deep, Gemini or Daisy Glow are aiming to do colossal damage on both sweaty dance-floors and early night build-ups. Who Knew?

Palais de Danse may be familiar to some as the Glaswegian record store situated aloft Sauchiehall Street. Since 2016, shop owner and label head DSG has released a string of records on the shop's own imprint.

PDD004 is bursting with semi-live machine sessions riddled with heavy kicks, breakbeats, distortion buzz and pedal hums fed through a 1970s Pioneer SA-7500 amp and recorded onto cassette tape before being pressed to 100 x 12" and hand-stamped.

For our 8th Podcast we welcome @timothyclerkin to the podcast series.

Timothy Clerkin is an Amsterdam based producer, live act & DJ, who has been releasing records, playing live & DJ’ing all over the world since 2010.

After spending a number of years cutting his teeth as one half of international DJ duo the Eskimo Twins, he has been releasing music under various solo names for a number of years now.

With a string of rabidly received EP’s with his birth moniker under his belt, he is now touring his electric & ambitious live show, which has been described as a filthy, extensive journey through clubbing.

2018 saw him launch his own label ‘Insult To Injury’ which, after only a handful of releases, has already been heavily supported by the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Optimo, Vladimir Ivkovic, Ivan Smagghe, Erol Alkan, Lena Willikens & Lovefingers.

This is a pure club mix from the artists stacked full of plenty of dance floor smashers plusing through a eclectic mix of electronic gold, through ambient electro, techno, breakbeat and chock full of acid. Rave on.

Heartbreak

The first voice you can hear on Opalis FM is that of a child. Distorted as it is, traveling towards us through layers of radio static and time itself, you can clearly make out the kid saying: ”On y va!“ (”Let’s go!“).
The voice belongs to Thomas - long before he became Toh Imago - and was sampled from old video tapes made by his parents on their yearly trips to the Opal Coast, a popular holiday spot on the north-western coast of France. We walk besides Thomas into the ”Baie d’Authie”, a small little cove that is a bit less crowded than the sandy beaches further north, and very soon we are here, right in the middle of a deeply personal record, bursting with youthful energy and longing nostalgia all the same. In electronic music, nostalgia is often used as cop out for creativity — dusty samples are used to convey a feeling of better times and connect in the simplest way with the everyday listener. Not here. Thomas conceived Opalis FM (named after the radio station that soundtracked all of his backseat car trips on the Opal Coast) during the Covid-19 lockdown, but instead of going the easy route in face of dystopia, the new Toh Imago record is decidedly fun. It’s filled with a joy and energy that is genuinely contagious. It’s samples are sprinkled like sugary icing on a cake, it jumps between genres, moods and directions at ease. A record not just inspired by childhood, but made with that youthful enthusiasm that we sometimes miss in our adult lives. Just look at the eponymous track ”Opalis FM“: a head-spinning tune that catches you off-guard so many times that by it’s junglist, neo-drum&bass climax, you have entered a dreamlike state where you can’t remember where you just came from - only where you are going.
”Bagatelle Monorail“, named after the amusement park in the area, is roller coaster ride between ambient, dub, and euphoric, peak time house. Even within the tracks themselves, Thomas is not afraid to follow his intuition, free from genre conventions or stereotypes.
Only the best electronic record’s manage to do that to us: invite us to a place of wonder and excitement, where our cynical, „heard it all before“ minds can be genuinely surprised.

His finger hovered over the button hesitantly, his willingness to press it coming and going in waves. Once he hit it that was it, there was no going back, no beta mode to save him. The risk seemed to outweigh the return, and it would be on his shoulders, and his only, if there were any glitches. He knew he'd have to bite the bullet soon enough, but until then he'd let the anxiety gnaw away a little longer...

Our good friend Timothy Clerkin is back with another batch of acid-tinged bangers on his Insult To Injury imprint, run with our good selves, this time courtesy of Manchester-based producers Buran, with two remixes from Kincaid and Earth Trax. Spawned from several live jams, which have barely been edited before going to press, in typical ITI fashion the two originals pack a punch from the off, bringing together acid bass lines, rumbling low end and thumping kicks.
