Bjarki Rúnar Sigurðarson is an artist in flux, slipping through definitions as easily as he does genres. His early output on трип suggested a clear trajectory—big-room techno, high-impact, and high-energy. But @bjarki has always been more interested in disruption. He loves veering off the beaten track.

Over the past decade, his identity has splintered across at least twenty documented personas (and perhaps some more hidden from the voyeur's view), each serving a vessel for the unpredictable. He functions in a space of humour and unease—shaping music that is erratic, raw, and wholly untamed.

And there is a lot of it—keyword: a lot. Bjarki doesn’t just release music; he floods the system. His latest album, 'A Guide to Hellthier Life', is a sharp, satirical dismantling of the wellness guru social media economy, where self-care is commodified and monetised at scale.

Stepping up to deliver IA MIX 389, the Icelandic producer extends that same critique—a surreal, self-aware meditation on the absurdity of performative well-being. Dark humour is nothing new for Bjarki, but here, his observations feel more honed, more biting, more necessary.

The mix itself is impossible to bracket, moving through states rather than styles—thoughtful, meditative, ridiculous, and deeply melancholic all at once. It’s a trip, in every sense. And, as always with Bjarki, it’s best not to ask where it’s going.

"I want more risks." The French DJ and producer talks about groundbreaking musical practices, musique concrète and her forthcoming album, Juggling Dualities.

There's a history of groundbreaking musical practice that's lost in modern dance music, at least according to Hermione Frank, AKA rRoxymore. The French DJ and producer has been questioning the dominant modes of creativity for a long time. First, she learned from the world of free jazz and Afrofuturism as a child—her dad was close friends with pioneering spiritual jazz musician Sun Ra. She then went on to study musique concrète, the avant-garde school of sound collage pioneered by Pierre Schaeffer. 

Today, Frank makes music that's geared more towards the dance floor, and in this RA Exchange, she uncovers how she brings her background pushing musical boundaries into more "listenable" contexts. She also dives into working with the now-defunct collective Room 4 Resistance—an intersectional feminist party for Berlin's FLINTA community which also hosted workshops dedicated to fostering systems of care—and why she's moved on from Berlin, a city that she once viewed as a hub for creativity, accessibility and as the nucleus of political, risk-taking art. 

Frank has a new album, Juggling Dualities, out July 17th on !K7. It sits at the fringes of New Age and dub, taking a sideways look at wellness culture by meditating on the importance of self-care while simultaneously poking fun at it. For RA.1000, DJ Sprinkles' first mix in over a decade is a powerful meditation on the genocide in Gaza.

Dance music often relies on simple narratives: release, escape, unity. But those narratives can often feel inadequate, and even at times, hollow. Or, as Terre Thaemlitz might bluntly put it, just "shitty."

For her first mix in around 15 years, Terre Thaemlitz AKA DJ Sprinkles, challenges us to think differently. "I felt this 1000th podcast should reflect the moment in which it was made," she told us in her Q&A.

And what is this moment? Every day since Israel's 2023 assault on Gaza began, an average of 28 children have been killed. That's an entire classroom, every day, for over 600 days (at the time of writing). It's a staggering figure that only captures a fragment of the listless cruelty imposed on the strip.

Faced with such a genocide, what can music really do? How political can it truly be?  For their RA.1000, Thaemlitz gives us an unflinching rebuke to the idea that music should provide escapism. The mix weaves ambient fragments and jazz passages, woven around samples from Israeli media and the voices of outspoken Jewish critics like Gabor Maté and Norman Finkelstein. 

The result is not just a protest, but a document of our time. For Terre Thaemlitz, music is never just music. Her RA.1000 serves as a reminder that in an age of relentless suffering, the most political act is to reject the illusion of escape, and search for something greater.
