The amazing Marcel "Sidologie" Donne created this magnificent cover of a firm C64 fave epic - Tetris as part of his Project Sidologie Kickstarter, lending gravitas and depth to this so-very-different version of a Tetris soundtrack that was exclusive to the C64 (vs. the cheery Nintendo take) - but because I'm an asshole, I felt it still needed the raw C64 instruments, so I mashed them together. Here, are two segments from this 25 minute opus.

'Space Debris' (1991) by Captain/Image (Markus Kaarlonen) fused with the C64 SID remix of same by Flex of Artline Designs, and the actual remix by the original composer!  I made this mashup of them all.. for my own ears, thought maybe others might like too ^_^

I was in the gym one night, listening to scenemusic.net when this track by Hazel came on ("Living in a dream").. and I instantly thought of the Utah Saints track from the 90's "What can you do for me?" and Annie Lennox's vocal sample ripped from "Must be talking to an angel" - so I did a quick dirty mix *live* on the BBKB radio show....

..and to top it off.. I chucked a Carl Sagan bit in :D

My "Fake Demo Production" creation - which is to say I created a song inspired by the PC demoscene.

This was a completely new way for me to compose music, no longer using Renoise/trackers, but Cubase, to allow me to more freely work out.. the flow?  Also more than half the instruments in this were via my Roland DS synth, so a fusion of real & virtual instruments :)

This is an odd one - I heard this strange but interesting remix by BL▲CK † CEILING, called TW1N P34KS - it's a remix of "Falling" by Angelo Badalamenti.. and as I was hearing it I could imagine a famous 8-bit game tune playing over - Robocop, by Jonathan Dunn.  Additionally, to give it some depth, I added Allister Brimble's modern arrangement of the same.

The original Black Ceiling track is a bit muddy, but I still like the overall effect :)

Randomly heard this wonderful track - "Stars" by Visti & Meyland - and it immediately reminded me of something.. took me a while to realize.. but it's Jeroen Tel's fantastic music for the C64 game "Hot Rod" - so I did a little mashup edit of the track - Note that the full "Stars" is about twice as long, and has an amazing intro, worth checking out :)

So, apparently at some point I started a remix of a fave Amiga Demoscene song - Overload, by Mantronix & Tip.

Apparently, I forgot about it, and left it very raw, and unfinished.  I suspect I shan't return to it.. so..  here.

AN EPIC 3 MILLION YEARS IN THE MAKING!!!
(Or... 2 Lanky bints with obsessive compulsive perfectionism finally agree the tune is finished!)

This little inkling of an idea for a cover kind of grew and grew, as I went from where I had in mind - a synthy cover of the rather dark tune.frpm the C64 game of yore.

I had already heard it covered it in quite a nice synthy way, and so I thought maybe a full on rock style - but I was loathe to do so after having just done something in that style.
 
So, I decided to approach the piece in a more grandiose way, a progressive fusion of 8-bit, orchestral instrumentation, and raucous rock, with an aggressive electronica sound.  

Then I had my best idea - ask fellow 8-bit femmezoid Anna Black to collaborate with a spoken dialogue sequence, telling the story of the TUSKER hero's adventures (as seen in level 2 of the game) - so a basic story outline was penned,  then tweaked.  An initial recording was made, and the feel was good, so we pressed on.
 
The story of the dialogue comes from the Tusker game itself, along with some nods to some movie and gaming in-jokes/conventions.  Musically this was a very difficult track to produce, as it evolved over time, and the mastering of the actual mix proved very complex - for this I'd like to say thank you to Putzi who gave me some excellent advice with the technical side of audio mixing.
 
However, as is often the case for musicians, sometimes you work so hard on a piece that it begins to drive you mad, and at the end I just wanted this one out the door, though even as it went out the door I thought oooh I could've added this, that etc !
 
Sometimes you've just got to let the kids go!

A cover of David Bowie's song "As the world falls down" from the movie "Labyrinth" - with a twist. The inspiration of this cover was the notion that in the videogame "Portal" - a malfunctioning Sentry Turrent (semi-sentient automated gun turrets) has encountered the game's protagonist Chell... and fallen in love with her. But their love is not to be as Chell brings about the destruction of the world around them... or does she? :D

Dune-game inspired piece for Nick

A kind of collaboration I had with the superbly talented Jamie Maxwell - who created my fave C64 arrangement of all time - with an interpretation of the classic C64 loading music from The Last Ninja (System 3, 1987)by Ben Daglish.

Jamie's beautiful guitar play serves as the core of this track, which I shrouded in a slightly Vangelis-esque vibe.
