Vibes Within

'Found Objects' is the umpteenth album from the prolific composer, assembled after almost a year of experimentation with studio serendipity. Built around glitchy recordings of piano, synthesizer and strings, it's a cloudy collection of whimsical ambience that reminds of Taylor Deupree or Machinefabirek, but retains a particularly individual sense of purpose. When skeletal drums appear on 'Opulent Lyricism' there's a breath of The Remote Viewer's City Center Offices material and that's no bad thing at all. Lovely. -- BOOMKAT

"LHF's members include Amen Ra, Double Helix, No Fixed Abode, Low Density Matter, Octaviour, Escobar Seasons, Solar Man, and Lumin Project. Their debut album 'Keepers of the Light' was an expansive collection of tracks drawing on various strains of music that evolved out of the British rave movement - jungle, 2-step, and grime included, but with a particular interest in dubstep. Their second album, 'For The Thrown' is an extension of these ideas, but it takes more of a step into the unknown. Take Amen Ra and Octaviour's new track (and album opener) Gateway for example: you can hear familiar snatches of sounds and rhythms from the UK underground, but the approach is more abstracted, turning it into a haunting, meditative, ambient piece of music."

Mr Beatnick is a scholar and a gentleman - a bona fide expert in everything soulful and strange, from jungle to Sun Ra, broken beat to retro drum machines, a very fine DJ indeed, and a general man about London town. In addition, since he turned his hand to four-to-the-floor beats with the majestic "Synthetes" in 2011, he's slyly become one of the best synthetic disco producers in the world. This one had us smiling and swaying in the office on first play, and will sound like pure gold in a party situation.

Kerry Leimer has been producing music and experimental sound since the mid- 1970s. One of the early independent Seattle labels, he founded Palace of Lights in late 1979 as a means to release his work and that of others, free of commercial concern. In addition to PoL his recordings are available on the Autumn, Cherry Red, First Terrace, Invisible Inc., Les Giants, Longform Editions, RVNG, and VOD labels. PoL currently represents works by K. Leimer, Marc Barreca, Barreca | Leimer, Steve Peters, Savant, Gregory Taylor, and Three Point Circle. Palace of Lights releases are distributed exclusively by Revolver and represented by First Terrace Publishing. His work is included in the collection of The British Library.
