The track "Small Car" by chöko aba & M.RUX traces its origins back to the original song of the same name by Marvin Pontiac, the alter ego of John Lurie, featured on the 1999 album The Legendary Marvin Pontiac, Greatest Hits. This album stands out for its fresh, humorous, and charismatic storytelling, seamlessly blending jazz, blues, minimal jazz, funk, and world music, all enhanced by hypnotic, repetitive elements.
Initially, chöko aba began working on a short version of "Small Car" on his own. When M.RUX heard this early sketch, he instantly fell in love with it and asked for a copy. Sensing the potential for something more expansive, chöko  invited M.RUX to collaborate on the project, and together, they set out to create a more extensive version.
What began as a simple edit evolved into a creative reinterpretation. Perhaps inspired by the playful and enigmatic spirit of Marvin Pontiac, or driven by the technical challenges of reworking the original, the duo took the track in a new direction. The final piece features Morgan Freeman as a somewhat unreliable AI speech generator, narrating the whimsical tale of small farmers venturing out to explore the world in their makeshift tin-can cars.
chöko aba & M.RUX filled this world with their distinctive blend of Dub, DownTempo, and obscure sounds, while retaining the original's quirky genius and the chants of the small farmers. The result is an imaginative departure from the source material, yet it remains true to the spirit of Marvin Pontiac.

Es ist Donnerstag Abend und die mystische Insel füllt sich mit den ersten Tanzmäusen die voller Vorfreude und mit frischer Energie ins Festival starten. 
Die letzten Sonnenstrahlen scheinen über den geliebten Creatures Corner. Ich hüpfe noch einmal vorfreudig aufgeregt in den See und beschmunzle dabei das jetzt schon lustvolle Treiben auf dem Floor. Mein Ziel: Den Tanzmäusen gleich eine bunte Tüte an Lieblingstracks servieren, die einen in den Festivalmodus ziehen. Und all das auf dem Floor, auf dem ich in den letzten Jahren als Tänzer schon so viel erleben durfte... Dort Lieblingslieder zu spielen die mich in leichtfüßig spaßigen Flow bringen und dann auch noch eigen produzierte Sounds mit euch zu teilen und sie gemeinsam genußvoll zu betanzen, hat mir so viel Energie gegeben und mein Herz erfüllt. Nur schön zu sehen, wie ein voller Floor beseelt schwebt, kraftvoll tanzt, zufrieden grinst und mit mir hüpft. Dickes fettes Dankeschön an alle die solch besondere Momente möglich machen ❤️


It's Thursday evening and the mystical island is filling up with the first dance enthusiasts who are full of excitement and fresh energy as they kick off the festival. 
The last rays of sunshine shine down on the beloved Creatures Corner. I jump into the lake once more, filled with excitement and anticipation of the lively atmosphere on the dance floor. My goal: to serve the dancers a colorful mix of my favorite tracks that will draw them into a joyful festival mode. And all this on the dance floor where I've had so many experiences as a dancer over the last  years... Playing my favorite songs there, which put me in a light-footed and fun flow, and then sharing my own produced sounds with you and dancing to them together with so much joy has filled my heart. It's wonderful to see all of you floating with joy, dancing energetically, smiling satisfied, and jumping with me. A huge thank you to everyone who makes such special moments possible ❤️

zhart cornern I Mystic Creatures Festival 2025

Hamburg homies Jakobus Siebels and Mense Reents make up the Die Vogel duo. The duo make some of the finest deep tech and phsyc house and have released together almost exclusively on Dj Koze and Marcus Fink’s Pampa records. Their name simply translates as ’the birds’ and the super talent multi-instrumentalists put on one hell of a live show, flying between the trombone, trumpet, flute and clarinet all glued together seamlessly with percussion and techno for good measure (obviously). 

Ahead of their upcoming set at The Social festival, the pair have dug deep for this mix. Putting their heads together and providing a selection that takes you on a  journey through house, techno, psychedelic rock and beyond. Press play!

“Instead of making a classic DJ mix, we rather combined acapellas and pieces that are close to our hearts with sketches of our own music. At our first meeting we listened to some vinyl records and some sessions that we had made a while ago with Alphorns and Steel Drums. We chose about 30 pieces and digitized some of them. Using different genres in the mix wasn't an issue. Mense collected all the material and assembled it on the computer. Part of the podcast are also two songs by some other bands of ours (NRFB and JaKönigJa).
To us, the mix has a nocturnal - urban and even a somewhat cinematic mood. So put on your headphones and leave the house! There's a lot to discover. Enjoy!”
