Originally released on CD in 1999, Astral Industries present a first vinyl issue of Monolake’s much-loved ‘Gobi’, licensed from Imbalance Computer Music. Set to the backdrop of the Gobi desert in eastern Asia, two shimmering vistas plunge the listener into a vast and deeply hypnotic nocturnal soundscape. The perennial hiss and rattle of insects float along the fresh night air in soft waves. The desert thrives with quiet activity as a westerly wind skitters across moonlit dunes, granulated folds dancing like sheets of thin silk. Tectonic plates murmur beneath the shower of stars overhead, their millennial cycles whispering of aeons past. Vividly textured and enticingly synthetic in its sound design, Gobi succeeds as a stunning piece of minimalism.

Human perception deals in terms of beginnings, ends, and fleeting singular points — time draws a never-ceasing line over and onto itself, without measure or interruption. The circle of time is always complete. In this perfect circle — a perpetual torrent of life and death — the organic world ultimately turns into stone, stone turns into shimmering dust, and dust itself forms a lively concrete haze.

"Concrete Haze" is the third full-length album by rookas bringing a close to a trilogy of sonic explorations in physical format. Built upon the solid foundations of earlier installments — boundless ambient depths and piercing rhythms — this collection of tracks brings more life and dynamics to the well-refined style of rookas. »sleepstep« is the first collaboration between raster-noton and dasha rush. the record‘s subtitle »sonar poems for my sleepless friends« describes its underlying concept – »sleepstep« is a trip through electronically alienated microcompositions and sound collages that, interwoven with text passages, aim at creating a dream-like atmosphere.

the stations of this journey are striving for oblivion of time, an immersion, a drifting in universal states – death, life, birth, grief, desire. the titles often appear to be raw sketches, fugitive, surreal short stories that rather want to break open than execute.

the musical arrangement, in this context, can be described as rather subtle and fragile. though electronically manipulated, no production technique is pushing itself to the fore. and though clichés are not dreaded, »sleepstep«, as a result, stays away from being cliché. the sonar poems for her sleepless friends are feminine, subtle and personal reports. a musical dream journey in the form of a classical concept record – an album that also stands in the tradition of ambient music.

dasha rush is already known as a techno dj and producer. here on »sleepstep«, she celebrates her alter ego. the cd version comes with a 32-pages booklet that also shows her photographic interest and includes the aforementioned poems written by her. furthermore there is 2 x 12" vinyl version.

As recent scientific studies (ANITA) suggest, our planet Earth might also be producing some strange "upward going" cosmic waves of particles that are not accounted in the Standard Model. So far, nobody knows what is the source of those game changing particles randomly observed. Random discoveries are the best a scientist could hope for. Taking a step back, this hope and curiosity of the unknown could also be the driving forces that pushed Soviet Union explorer to launch the SG3 project in 1970. Their goal was to drill earth’s crust as deep as possible to get a better understanding of our home structure and composition.

For the third release of Cosmic Wave Records, commands are given to techno artist Vardae for a journey into planet Earth deepest borehole: SG3. Starting from Level 0 (0m) in 1970, the first two tracks of the EP emphasize the hope and curiosity that soviet drillers could feel when they started drilling, using uplifting and peaceful harmonies on pads conducted by subtle rhythms and groovy basses. As the journey goes on into the mists of the deep, Vardae vision takes the listener to darker places, using a nice balance of cycling rhythms and mental atmospheres, with a touch of sparkling acid lines. It is year 1989 when, under extreme conditions (180°C), the drillers reaches the deepest place of planet Earth so far: minus 12 262 meters.The four original compositions are packed with two remixes from CWR residents. KLI.M proposes a stripped back and percussive oriented remix of Level 0, Diapasøn takes the listener to his own deep, remixing 12 262, with dark resonant synth sustained by trippy grooves.
