Kyra Renee’ Clay was born in Detroit, Michigan. This classically trained clarinetist, is a musician who does not stop at one instrument. Kyra has played the clarinet for over 14 years. She also plays drums, piano, electric, acoustic guitar and harmonica, yet still has time to compose all of her music and write the lyrics to all of the songs. She has been singing in her church choir since the age of 2 and eventually became one of the church musicians. Kyra is a very hard working talent, who won’t stop unless everything is done right. Going to the Detroit High School For the Fine and Performing Arts, sealed the artistic deal for young Kyra. At that school, she was able to study, music professionally. . It was evident to Kyra, that being a musician was being able to perform, write your own songs and play your own instruments, live. That’s what makes an entertainer; a person who can take the stage without a lot of background, just a raw, live performance and tell their story. Kyra is able to sing about pain and happiness without having the message feel or sound fabricated. With lyrics that will make you go from crying, to jumping up and down, as if you’re in a mosh scene and vocal skills that can go from screaming hard rock to pure toned melodic melodies. It is no wonder she has her heart set out to pull history into her music. She is a graduate of MSU with a B.A. in English and a concentration in Creative Writing; and graduate of Lesley University with an MFA in Writing for Stage & Screen.
