He's a member of AIGA, and was elected to the Alliance Graphique Internationale in 1995. Stephen teaches in the graduate program at The School of Visual Arts and has taught at Yale, The Cooper Union and NYU. He lives in Greenwich Village with his wife and two children. Eric Baker is principal of Eric Baker Design, he is also an author and adjunct professor of graphic design at the School of Visual Arts in New York. A two-time recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Design Grant for his independent design history projects, his work has appeared in The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Domus, Communication Arts, Graphis, Print, ID Magazine, The New York Art Directors Annual and British Design and Art Direction.

He is inveterate collector of books and ephemera and curated the "Today" column, which appeared on Design Observer for several years.

Ralph Caplan is a writer and communications consultant and lectures on design. He is the former editor-in-chief of I.D. Magazine and the author of several books including By Design: Why There Are No Locks on the Bathroom Doors in the Hotel Louis XIV and Other Object Lessons, Cracking the Whip: Essays on Design and its Side Effects and The Design of Herman Miller. Caplan is an Emeritus Board Member for the International Design Conference in Aspen. An honorary member of the Industrial Designers Society of America, he is the 2010 recipient of the “Design Mind” National Design Award.

Kate Bingaman-Burt founded Obsessive Consumption in 2002. Her first book, Obsessive Consumption: What Did You Buy Today?, was published this year by Princeton Architectural Press. She illustrated the book, Handmade Nation: The Rise of DIY, Art, Craft and Design, as well as the promotional materials for the documentary of the same name. Bingaman-Burt lives in Portland, Oregon, where she is an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Portland State University. Her Obsessive Consumption work is represented by Jen Bekman in NYC.

Alexander Isley is a designer and educator. He founded Alexander Isley Inc. in 1988.

Alex has taught at the School of Visual Arts and The Cooper Union. Since 1996 he has been a critic and lecturer at the Yale School of Art. His work is in the collections of the National Design Museum, The Library of Congress and MoMA. His firm is the recipient of a Federal Design Achievement Award.

He was an inaugural member of “The ID 40,” a survey of the nation’s most influential design innovators. In 1998 Alex was accepted to Alliance Graphique Internationale. He is past president of AIGA New York.

Steven Heller is the co-chair of the Designer as Author MFA Program and co-founder of the MFA in design criticism program at the School of Visual Arts in New York. He is the editor, author or co-author of over 100 books on design, political art and popular culture.

Heller was an art director at The New York Times. Currently, he writes the "Visuals" column for the Book Review, designer and illustrator obituaries and a design column for NY Times' T-Style "The Moment" blog. He writes the "Daily Heller" for Print's online forum and does interview "Broadcasts" for Core77.

Alexandra Lange is an architecture and design critic, journalist and historian. Her work has appeared in The Architect's Newspaper, Design Observer, Metropolis, New York Magazine and The New York Times. She teaches architecture criticism at New York University and the School of Visual Arts.

Jane Thompson is an editor, designer and urban planner. One of the founding editor of I.D. magazine she also pioneered many revitalization projects such as Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston, New York’s Grand Central District and the Chicago Navy Pier. Jane and her husband Benjamin Thompson, FAIA, collaborated for two decades on Design Research, the Cambridge store that introduced products from abroad and brought modern living to the United States.

Kate Betts is a fashion journalist and a contributing editor at Time magazine. Betts is also a columnist at The Daily Beast and until this year, she was also the editor of Time Style & Design.

Previously, Betts was the editor in chief of Harper's Bazaar, where she completely redesigned the 134-year-old fashion title and became known as the youngest editor ever to take over a fashion magazine. She moved to Bazaar from Vogue, where she was the fashion news director from 1991 to 1999. Betts was recently named one of the top 10 fashion editors by Forbes. Gail Anderson is the former creative director of design at SpotCo. From 1987 to early 2002, she served as senior art director at Rolling Stone magazine.

Anderson’s work, which has received numerous awards, is in the permanent collections of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and the Library of Congress. She is co-author, with Steven Heller, of six design books and the upcoming New Modern Type.

Anderson teaches in the School of Visual Arts and is the recipient of the 2008 AIGA Medal, and the 2009 Richard Gangel art direction award from the Society of Illustrators.
