This record is about something that everyone has been through, thinking you're deep in love with someone when for them it's just a fling to waste time until something better comes along. Yeah, it SUCKS but at least you have those great memories to hold on to whether they were real or fake for the other person, hence the line "the illusion was beautiful". This is the first record Mike is singing on and we think he fits perfectly with Jackie's amazing vocal! This was actually supposed to be just a reference vocal and we literally recorded it in a dining room with a pillow around the mic, but after listening a couple times we thought her voice was perfect for it!
