MINDSCAPE brings his unique and fierce take on d&b back to his home label with REANIMATOR CHAPTER ONE on EATBRAIN, the first part of a series of 3 EPs, that culminate in the REANIMATOR LP. As one of the imprint’s most recognisable figureheads, Mindscape deftly demonstrates why that’s the case with the 4 tracks within delivering distinct and succinctly powerful ideas to the table. The REANIMATOR sat frozen in his chair, held spellbound by the stygian gaze of his newest creation. Within the onyx depths of her eyes there was something new, something different, a quality not present in his other works. As she began to rise, he studied her movements with a mix of pride and abject terror. Before him stood his greatest creation, a life truly brought back from beyond that most final veil. She did not lurch with the brutish inhumanity of her predecessors, but rather her movements flowed with a equally inhuman grace that transcended her monstrous form. Her pallid skin and jet black hair projected an aura of unnatural beauty, taboo and forbidden by nature of her construction, yet still undeniable in its existence. Though she did not speak, there was an intent within her gaze. It was cold & alien, dipping into the edge of human comprehension but not truly existing within it. It was this aspect that set the fear surging within him. His other creations had by comparison been parodies of life, their animalistic wants and desires well within his ability to control. It was clear this was no longer the case. The meeting of their gaze created a palpable tension, a physical collision of analogous thought. The pair regarded each other as duelists, testing, probing, each searching for a moment of weakness hidden beneath the blank demeanor of their foe. Slowly, the REANIMATOR began to regain his strength, rising from his chair with newfound courage. This courage dissolved once more as he watched his creation rise in mimicry, his own movements mirrored upon her body like a marionette but for one difference. A wry grin spread slowly across her lips, illuminating that this was not merely mimicry, but mockery instead. The REANIMATOR took one step back, then another, before finally flinging himself towards his tools, fanatically searching amongst them for any that would offer salvation from the eldritch horror he had created. He turned, lashing out with a scalpel held in his trembling hand. The blade bit into the cheek of his creation as he marred her uncanny beauty in an admission of his own failure. For a brief moment, the REANIMATOR saw something new within her onyx eyes, a pain wrought by the betrayal of he who had given her a simulacrum of life. He faltered in momentary regret, empathetic of the pain which he had inflicted until he too felt a pain upon himself. Gone from his hand was the means of his betrayal, and upon his coat there lay a stain. Across his neck, a gash spread slowly, just as his creation’s grin had moments before. This time however, the slow spread of such a line was indicative not of the budding existence of a life but of the creeping end of one. His strength faltering, the REANIMATOR looked once more into the eyes of his creation. Gone was the look of pained betrayal, replaced once more by that cold & inhuman gaze. Delivered by the hand of his own work to the level of the clay from which he wrought his creations, the REANIMATOR fell to the ground with finality.

Suspended amongst a web of cables was a woman who stood upon the very precipice of humanity. Skin shared equal space with metal upon the surface of her body, and within her mind, neurons fired alongside a wealth of transistors. Into this mind flowed an endless torrent of information transmitted through the arterial cables surrounding her. Indeed, it was an interesting question whether her body truly ended at the edges of her human form or if it enveloped the whole of the facility itself, for without such symbiosis neither entity could survive.

The woman’s existence was exemplary of an age old bargain brought violently into the future. In sacrificing her freedom to even move as she once did, the woman had acquired power unknowable to any other. From within the secret facility, the woman watched and listened to the city above through the vast network of cameras and sensors ever present in modern life. A modern mythological horror with a million eyes perched upon a web of her own knowledge, those select few who knew of her had given her a sinister name: The Spider. From her web she ruled from the shadows, her absolute knowledge operated upon by a network of agents in order to secure the desired outcome. They were her fangs, striking with speed and precision against any she deemed undesirable. From the shadows she poisoned the laws of the land, erasing or doctoring evidence to fit her specific narrative and paralyse any who would seek justice against her agents or come too close to discovering the truth. Her rule was absolute yet invisible, powerful yet without force. The city was hers and she was the city, for in her web all things were INTERLINKED.

TASK HORIZON return to EATBRAIN with the four track INTERLINKED EP, furthering their hi-tech drum & bass sound following the release of the Overclocking Reality EP on the label in February of 2018. The titular INTERLINKED leaps almost immediately into overdrive, surging forth from the gate with razor sharp basses and speeding percussion. Featured next is the IMMORTALITY PROTOCOL VIP, a reworking of their previous collaboration with MAGNETUDE that maintains the original’s cinematic atmosphere whilst warping its bassline into a sinister & swarming sonic texture. TASERFACE’s shocking syncopated rhythms impact with unparalleled power through their expression via devastatingly weaponised percussive elements. Closing the EP is TECHNOSH!T, which moves with steady pace as shimmering melodics float atop its motive beat. With INTERLINKED, TASK HORIZON once more display the unique synthesis of skill borne of their four-part collaborative effort, displaying their tech-fuelled sound with continued devotion.

Mindset is a producer-duo from The Netherlands, consisting of Max van der Meel and Boi Mulder. Coming from a background in punk and metal their initial focus was mainly on neurofunk. Starting out in 2017, the duo has already had several releases on labels like BNC Express, ION Music and Kraken Records and shared the stage with some of their biggest inspirators like Mefjus and Optiv. Recently then they started to develop their sonic palete with more esthetic deep vibes. This release is the first outlet in the search for finding new ways to express their creativity.

A burning haze, hangs heavy under the low slung beams of the passing stars. Gravity fights and pulls with the dying light before letting it slide into the FADED tops of the trees. On the outer shelf of the disk on Stavrogen, the forests transform into smokey, swarming metropolis’s full of devils. Eviscerated souls come in and out of view, vanishing as they pass through the ether - the metamorphism of each SHAPESHIFTER is complete as night tightens its grip - darkness is the onlyconcern. On the far North tip, sits the rebel fighter Jstor, her hands lightly pressing down onto the recently stolen NINJA SCROLL. Sweat running over the burning circuits rotting in her flesh. From here, she is perched high in the shadows of the spike, rising up behind her in a thin smoothstructure from the cold deep earth into a point over ten miles high through the burning atmosphere. The rebel Jstor is fighting with her thoughts amongst the noises from below. In under four minutes from now she will destroy this planet and everything that infests it, but she knows she isnot the first to declare her love in this way to this burned out utopia and to have failed in its obliteration. Staring down at the devils caped in madness she begins to muse that every living thing has had its use - Stavrogen must be turned to ruin or it will continue to grow stronger infecting everything it drifts into. Jstor straps the NINJA SCROLL into her chest armour and pushes herself back into the spike. Tapping a broken finger on a small display sewn into the skin on her arm she sends two signals. The first plots an irreversible and fatal course for the disk known as Stavrogen. In 230 seconds from now the pressure between the two poles of the closest stars will fight for Stavrogen, like two ravaged dogs fighting for a bone, pulling it and everything on it into a billion molten pieces. The second signal pushed into the display sets a vice like grip into Jstors body fastening her to the spike and moving her off this world at a speed. Her body instantly hits paralysis and brain hasceased to function as she exits through zero point gravity. Jstor has become a suspended corpse with a 0.1% chance of survival. She is spat into clear space as Stavrogen is sucked away underneath her into the galactic abyss. 

ClashTone are an unlikely four piece act that merged in late 2018 to fill a void in the world of Drum and Bass. Eatbrain Label owner and D&B heavy weight Jade found himself curiously interested by the new musical demos’ of three almost obscure Londoners - Terror, Jolliffe and Mai DaVael. Terror previously being one half of the immensely successful Modestep - ClashTone marks his first musical outing since having made his departure from the band. The four producers set out to put music at the front of their writing and pin it down with the power and energy of DNB. The international collaboration gives you the gritty realism of London Town with the truly dark reeses and bass rips and drama found in the mainland European raves and dancehalls. This first EP takes you on an unbroken journey that evokes emotion and pushes the listener to the depths of the soul. Strap in and get ready for the ride through 2019 with a non stop assault on the senses.
