Grace is the unmerited mercy that God gave to humanity by sending His Son to die, thus securing our eternal salvation from sin. Grace is God choosing to bless us rather than curse us as our sin deserves. The song ‘Grace’ is part of a larger whole, the forerunner in a series of collaborated works between Kaktus and Greatness.

It serves as an encouragement to those who have experienced insurmountable relationship challenges. Kanyagia - Kaktus feat. Kiki

Barbed wire fences, scattered subdivisions of land were what dotted the swathes of wilderness savannah in KS (Kahawa Sukari) during the mid-1990s. Therein, in this semi-rural African suburb, were the daring pioneer frontier settlements in which Kaktus was raised. Through this song he brings to remembrance his situational circumstances and spiritual voyage during his youthful years as the son of an evangelical African mother. 

Kaktus also goes ahead to address the young African’s esteem gap as a third-world citizen, emanating from a not-so-glamorous or sophisticated ethnical past; laced with a pattern of continual westernisation that has in some cases watered down even the positive elements of our own precolonial Africanism. 

It’s a rallying cry against the stereotypical norms that have long held our youth from identifying and esteeming themselves as authentic African Christians. God has in His grace and mercy provided a leeway of expression for any biblically anchored African, to propagate the message of hope to contemporary youth using an Africanised styling and rendering of mainstream gospel pop.
