Founded by bass and breakbeat superstar FreQ Nasty alongside fellow DJ/producer David Starfire, the Dub Kirtan All Stars is a live band/DJ collective that originally came together with the intention of fusing “bass-heavy underground dance music with Yoga Kirtan,” a kind of traditional South Asian devotional chanting tradition centered on a call and response performance usually accompanied by acoustic instruments.

Dub Kirtan All Stars ft. Chaytanya & Srikala “Kunja Bihari” (Bending Form Mix)

The Rudrashtakam (Sanskrit: रुद्राष्टकम, Rudrāṣṭakam) is a Sanskrit composition in devotion of Rudra, composed by the Hindu Bhakti poet Tulsidas (Sanskrit: तुलसीदास). Tulsidas composed in the late fifteenth century in Uttar Pradesh in India and created many other literary pieces including the magnum opus Ram Charit Manas.

The devotional hymn "Rudrashtakam" appears in the Uttara Kand of the celebrated Ram Charit Manas, where Lomash Rishi composed the hymn to propitiate Lord Shiva. His main purpose was to set his pupil free from the curse of Shiva. He succeeded and asked also a second boon (devotion for himself). His pupil would be the bird ' Kaga-Bhusundi' in a next life, a devotee of Shri Rama and an excellent teller of the life story of Shri Rama.

The Ashtakam is in reverence to Rudra, though the context pertains to the Shiva, the post-Vedic transformation of Rudra. It is arguable that the distinction between Rudra and Shiva was already lost by the time of Tulsidas.

The Rudrashtakam is lucid and simple in style and plays an instrumental role in the Shaiva traditions.

In the vast forest of time, on a big tree which is the cosmos, a buzzing bee called Kaali Shakti is seated.

காலும்விழி நீலவன்ன மூல அத்து வாக்களெனும்
கால்களா றுடையதெனக் கண்டு - மறை
காணுமுனி வோருரைத்தார் பண்டு.

Her eyes are like fire, her legs are blue in color - thus the sages of the past who learnt the Vedas describe her.

மேலுமாகிக் கீழுமாகி வேறுள திசையுமாகி
விண்ணுமண்ணு மானசக்தி வெள்ளம் - இந்த
விந்தையெல்லா மாங்கது செய் கள்ளம் - பழ
வேதமா யதன்முனுள்ள நாதமாய் விளங்குமிந்த
வீரசக்தி வெள்ளம்விழும் பள்ளம் - ஆக
வேண்டும் நித்த மென்றனேழை யுள்ளம்.

She depicts all directions, sky and the earth, she is the basis of the Vedas, she is the flood of energy - let every heart wish to receive this energy.

One who is aware that she is the form of love, she creates everything, and she destroys everything, attains to the Ultimate.

She is the beginning, she is also the beginning - less. She is knowledge, she is the cascade of endless joy.

எண்ணியேஓம் சக்தியெனும் புண்ணிய முனிவர் நித்தம்
எய்துவார்மெய்ஞ் ஞானமெனுந் தீயை - எரித்து
எற்றுவாரிந் நானெனும் பொய்ப் பேயை.

She is the one who destroys the demon of self-identity. The sages who meditated on her have attained ultimate knowledge. 

ஆதியாஞ் சிவனுமவன் சோதியான சக்தியுந்தான்
அங்குமிங்கு மெங்குமுள வாகும் - ஒன்றே
யாகினா லுலகனைத்தும் சாகும் - அவை
யன்றியோர் பொருளுமில்லை, அன்றியொன்று மில்லையிதை
ஆய்ந்திடில் துயரமெல்லாம் போகும் - இந்த
அறிவுதான் பரமஞான மாகும்.  

Shiva and Shakti together are the basis of everything here - without them nothing can exist. There is no misery for whoever realizes this. This is the ultimate knowledge.

நீதியா மரசுசெய்வர் நிதிகள்பல கோடிதுய்ப்பர்
நீண்டகாலம் வாழ்வர்தரை மீது - எந்த
நெறியுமெய்து வர்நினைத்த போது - அந்த  
நித்தமுத்த சுத்தபுத்த சத்தபெருங் காளிபத
நீழலடைந் தார்க்கில்லையோர் தீது - என்று
நேர்மைவேதம் சொல்லும் வழி யீது.

The Vedas say that misfortune will not befall those who take care of people, live prosperously, and bow down to Kali’s feet.
