Stop what you're doing and give us your full attention because Hell Yeah mainstay My Friend Dario's new album Senza Estate is going to define the sound of summer 2024. It's an eclectic eight-track collection that has something for everyone and is inspired by dreamy Italian soundtrack composers Piero Piccioni and Umiliani.

Curveball Italian talent Dario is a real dance floor don who collides acid, nu-disco, breakbeat and electro. His take on Balearic is unique and always sends dance floors wild, as proven with his last outing Food For Woofers Vol 2 earlier in the year. His new album is the sound of life by the Mediterranean, Balearic audio pleasure for daytime dreaming and nighttime dancing with vocal tracks written and performed by the UK's Space Echo Records associate Darene Obika.

Dario hails from Catania on the island of Sicily and his inspiration for Senza Estate, which translates as 'without summer,' was an imaginary holiday, weekends at the seaside, car journeys in the sun, relaxing sunsets and late-night dancing. "For five years, I worked in a shop six days a week so despite living on a Mediterranean island I could never enjoy these things. Instead, I locked myself in the studio and jotted down the ideas, sensations, melodies and rhythms I had about another lost summer."

'Keep On Cruising' is a downtempo opener with innocent synths that are filled with hope and promise for the warm months ahead. 'Zingarella' is a wide open sea view with wispy pads, seductive flutes and jazzy melodies that bristle with life and the tropical title cut gets more dancey on shuffling broken beats and radiant synth glows. There's a seductive laid-back cool to the tumbling keys of 'Marittimo' and 'What You Need' is a horizontal groove with loved-up vocals, 'Falò' pairs sensual acoustic guitar with work with pillowy drums and 'Il Pianeta Proibito' layers up sci-fi synths and stuttering bass into a bubbly sound that leads to cosmic take-off. 'Acid Panorama' is the melancholic closer which hints that the summer sun is setting one final time after weeks of carefree fun.

But the good news is, you can repeat the joys of My Friend Dario's masterful Senza Estate over and over again.

Brand new imprint @happycamperrecords (founded by Britta Arnold, unders and Noraj Cue) drops new single "Time To Waste" as their sophomore release (pre-order via this link: www.beatport.com/label/happy-camper-records/66562) courtesy of Bar25 legend, KaterBlau resident and Berlin mainstay @jake-basker. The American-born singer/dj/producer has been in Germany long enough now to understand the art of making an <em>"Ohrwurm"</em> (=earworm) - "Time To Waste" is one of those tunes that keeps resonating inside your head long after you've heard it. With its thumping beat, catchy vocals and roaring synthline, it's bound to set any dancefloor ablaze.

Although many believe "Time To Waste" is a love song, Jake actually wrote it for his friends: 

<em>"I was at Kater one morning, getting tired of the cyclicality of raving, thinking I really ought to go home and kiss my wife, take care of my kids, get some sleep, get my life together and get some music done. Some friends wanted me to stay and keep dancing. I was like: 'If I had any time to waste, I'd waste it with you. But I don't so… Bye!'"</em>

Paper Tree sneaked out into the world for a moment a few years back and then vanished. Lee Burridge loved the track so much that he continued to harass Rebelski, sometimes standing outside his window in the flower bed, for weeks on end until he finally agreed to let Lee release it on All Day I Dream. Not content with a single track Lee went back to Rebelski's garden and tapped on the window repeatedly until he agreed to make some more beautiful tracks. 
Obviously pestering producers in this manner bares fruit. The Paper Tree EP ranges from a beautiful solitary solo piano piece that wouldn't be amiss in a British period piece drama where someone dies unexpectedly leaving the survivors to deal with it, all the while maintaining their stiff upper lip. Fly The Kite' made us want to go outside and do just that. So we did. It was epic. Circles And Squares joins Paper Tree as one of those dance floor moments best experienced with one's eyes closed. Myriad is the sound of a young lady robot's jewelry box (yes, we predict robots will be wearing jewelry in the future) that she(bot) pines to hear when she's all grown up and rusty. Omoshiroi is, well, it's just so damn pretty. Good work Rebelski. Good work.

Rebelski - Paper Tree

The fourth instalment on DGTL Records is an EP by Satori, who delivers a record with three tracks that all bear his signature sound. This will be the first EP he releases after Maktub, his well-received album on Crosstown Rebels. Compared to the album, the EP is more dance floor orientated and thus right in time for the summer festival season.

Satori has been part of the DGTL family for a few years already and with this release his connection with the family will become even stronger. Satori is inspired to capture electronic world music, where he combines endless blends of seductive trance and mind-altering earthy tones. This resonates through all his music and even more so through this release.
