Much may have changed over a two-decade period, but Drumcode’s commitment to releasing the scene’s most cutting-edge and refined techno remains resolute. 2016 saw releases from heavy hitters such as Adam Beyer, Alan Fitzpatrick, Dense & Pika, Sam Paganini, Joseph Capriati and wAFF, as well as a much coveted Moby remix package. The label pushes forwards again in 2017; bringing fail-safe, club-ready music to the techno community.

DC172 comes on behalf of Brazilian born Vinicius Honorio, a now London based producer and DJ who is making some serious in-roads amongst a new breed of techno artists. Having already released on labels such as Pig&Dan’s Elevate and dubspeeka’s Skeleton, the next natural step in his progression comes in the form of a release on Drumcode.

‘Through The Darkness’ is a masterclass in darkened techno grooves, with each one of the four tracks managing to show off Honorio’s skill as a producer and just why he is firing on all cylinders. The release kicks off with ‘Walking Shadow’, a track that has been a key part of Adam Beyer’s sets at the tail end of 2016 and in to the new year. This tense, brooding affair has certainly garnered a lot of attention of late and it’s clear to see why. The title track ‘Through The Darkness’ is a much more of a stripped back cut, jam-packed with a haunting vocal hook, driving basslines and slick drums. This is one for the late night mischief makers. ‘Desolate’ is another hard-hitter, managing to perfectly balance that signature Honorio groove and pounding drums that adds depth to his productions. The release closes with the atmospheric ‘Out For Blood’, which is loaded with vintage rave stabs and weighty basslines – This one is meant to played in dark and sweaty rooms.

Walking Shadow @ Drumcode

Obscura, the Italian based imprint run by Agents Of Time, present their second release featuring new tracks by a variety of artists including François X, Voiski and The Hacker.

Label owners offer a disorienting line of acid tension in ‘Sequences’ followed by minimalist master Voiski’s ‘Floodlight For Sunflower’ - a deep end percussive workout. Parisian underground export François X is next with stripped back hypnotic roller ‘Rigid Monitor’ whilst The Hacker explores face-melting electro on ‘Analog Blizzard’.

Conceptual Spanish producer Orbe pairs interplanetary glitches with low end bass structures on ‘Temporary Mutation’ followed by Warsaw based Frenchman Amandra, who delves into droning tribal percussions on ‘Derviche Roba’.

Abstract Division, the collaborative project by Paul Boex and Dave Miller offer an eerie, energetic builder on ‘Unfolding Process’, followed by British techno mainstay Roberto’s funk injected robotic workout ‘Talisman’.

As part of the digital release, Italian Berlin-based producer Biemsix presents ‘You’re Too Young To Worry’, a restrained track where looping melodies interact with skeletal percussion.

Belgian producer Tom Hades has crafted a career as a tastemaker in the world of modern day Techno. Releasing on labels such as Drumcode and Sleaze Records, Tom’s sound has always stood out from his peers, with a strong emphasis on straightforward basslines and eternal melodies. This is techno made for the dancefloor. 

Recruited for a remix on the latest EP to be delivered for Reinier Zonneveld’s Filth On Acid, Tom steps up to provide a stripped backed version of the Steve Mulder’s original ‘Recon’. Injecting his own personal style, he brings forward the percussion elements of the track with rolling snares and clapping hi-hats forming the foundations. Coupled with the original pounding bass line, the track retains its powerful peak time abilities.  

Continuing 2018 in fine form, Tom Hades’ remix is club ready and primed for the bags of techno DJs across the world.

This year, Ryan Dupree delivers a brand new EP on Grossstadtvögel. The progressive sound suits him just as well as the rich and at the same time wide bass lines. He proves both here in the "Beyond The Dark" EP with absolute clarity regarding his skills. In addition, Vamos Art from Stuttgart, Uncloak from Brazil and a young talent from Slovenia, Teodor G, join him as excellent remixers of the EP.
