OSCM137: Eliran Farag - People And MDMA (Original Mix)

Long running Italian techno label Analytictrail serves up a new EP from one of their regular artists in the form of Kalden Bess. His four originals come backed with a remix from Luigi Madonna.
Bess has been crafting electronic music since 2008 in his native Montreal. In the years since he has gained props from the likes of Gary Beck, Pig & Dan and Jerome Sydenham and his dirty, sexy techno has come on labels like Drumcell and his own Ground Factory Records.
Attention grabbing opening track ‘Alpha’ is a prime techno cut with heavy, thumping kicks, walls of percussion and a booming voice beaming down like a dark force from outer space. For his part, Luigi Madonna – of labels like Drumcode and Plus 8 – strips things back to a more spaced-out and rolling techno groove with sheet metal synths spiralling around the pumping drums.
The perfectly produced ‘Unstoppable’ is just that – a monolithic stomper with closely stacked drums, paranoid synth lines and a crescendo of hi hats & vocal FX that trap you right at the centre of the whole monstrous affair. You can really see this one commanding dancefloors in large clubs or bleak warehouses alike, with crowds unable to do anything but stomp in its presence. Invisible’ is a more syncopated techno kicker that seems to rock on its heels. Razor sharp hi hat ringlets churn in large cycles and again distant, muffled voices suggest you aren’t alone in the midst of this domineering rhythm. Last but by no means least, ‘No Kings’ is a percolating, ever simmering affair with industrial textures and apocalyptic synths all working together in controlled chaos. If big room techno is your thing, you are unlikely to find tracks as inescapably groovy and arresting as these anywhere else this year

Obscura, the Italian based imprint run by Agents Of Time, present their second release featuring new tracks by a variety of artists including François X, Voiski and The Hacker.

Label owners offer a disorienting line of acid tension in ‘Sequences’ followed by minimalist master Voiski’s ‘Floodlight For Sunflower’ - a deep end percussive workout. Parisian underground export François X is next with stripped back hypnotic roller ‘Rigid Monitor’ whilst The Hacker explores face-melting electro on ‘Analog Blizzard’.

Conceptual Spanish producer Orbe pairs interplanetary glitches with low end bass structures on ‘Temporary Mutation’ followed by Warsaw based Frenchman Amandra, who delves into droning tribal percussions on ‘Derviche Roba’.

Abstract Division, the collaborative project by Paul Boex and Dave Miller offer an eerie, energetic builder on ‘Unfolding Process’, followed by British techno mainstay Roberto’s funk injected robotic workout ‘Talisman’.

As part of the digital release, Italian Berlin-based producer Biemsix presents ‘You’re Too Young To Worry’, a restrained track where looping melodies interact with skeletal percussion.

DEAS comes back to Second State with his brand new ‘Red Source’ EP following the extremely well received ‘Velocity’EP earlier this year. In true DEAS fashion he delivers four dance floor burners of high pace, abrasive yet euphoric Techno that will turn any rave into a moment of full fledge mayhem.
Diving in head first, ‘Red Source’ has the “pedal to the metal” where brisk percussion lays the ground work for sonic bleeps and eery vocals reminiscent of an excursion into deep space travel. ‘Face To Face’ follows suit with the same approach and concept yet relies more heavily on the drums to do the heavy lifting. Maintaining the pace and sticking to his signature tools, DEAS takes his sound palette and switches out the programming of expected sounds creating a surprisingly cool cut with ‘Second Signal’. Finalizing the EP, ‘Poison’ saves the ethereal and haunting sonics for last where eery harmonies hover over cinematic aural sparkles and an undeniably infectious groove emanating into an absolutely gorgeous yet chilling composition ideal for the more emotional Techno moments.

Sawf, Perc Trax’s most mysterious artist returns to the label he calls home after EP’s for Modal Analysis, Audio Assault and M-Rec. This is his first new material for Perc Trax since his well received album ‘Flaws’ in 2011 and shows him introducing new influences to his trademark grinding, industrial sound.

First up is title track Menete, built around a 16th note synth line that recalls everything from classic EBM to more modern synth-led techno such as the recent Sleeparchive EP on Tresor.  Closing the a-side is Toolio, a far too modest title for a track that is far from a disposable techno tool.  An expert exercise in building percussion, this is closest to the sound people know from Sawf, but the best example of it yet.

Opening up the b-side is a remix from Yuji Kondo; know best for his work under both his own name and as half of Steven Porter on Semantica. The remix is everything you’d expect from Yuji. A wall of broken-beat noise topped off by cut up vocals samples and a fluid, ever-changing arrangement. Closing the 12” is ‘Diin’. A deeper, almost house-like cut from Sawf, building on a probing bass guitar line, proving he can do subtle and atmospheric as well as he does tough and confrontational.

This is my remix for my buddy Mars Bill on Loose Records.

Loose Records enters the field once again with an exceptional product, in fact, the historical founder Rino Cerrone throws in a producer of our local school, Mars Bill, who is already known for his earlier works on labels such as MKT, Driving Forces, Respekt and Loose Records itself.
Mars Bill therefore gives birth to a four-tracks project composed by two Original Mix and two Remix by Kalden Bess and the duo On / Off. The first one is already a recognized producer in the music scene thanks to his numerous projects released by labels such as Analytic Trail, Blindspot, 1605, MB Elektronics and many others. The Dutch duo On / Off is very well known on the Neapolitan scene for having recorded a very successful EP with Analytic Trail, as well as famous in Europe for their previous works on labels such as 8 Sided Dice, Gem Records, Driving Forces and more.
“Obey” is a pure underground style track, where properly fit percussions intersect on a deep drum and bass lines envelop the frantic rhythm of the beat-in pure Techno style.
Kalden Bess remixes “Obey” with a really excellent remake, built in an articulate way where the Synth sweeps on circling bass and the track is sped up by an upbeat Hi Hats session, all finished by the dark touch of the remixer.
“Panic Room” is the second original mix of the EP, consisting of fluid sounds and rhythmic groovy, where low frequencies aggressively affect the beat. The drum is deep and wide at the same time, Technoid sounds take over and everything explodes in a never-ending crescendo of effects and textbook tricks.
On / Off remix “Panic Room” keeping the track always at the top of its performance, sinuous shades form a spatial beat. An elastic drum and an overwhelming bass compose a fully inserted rhythmic, where the Synth echoes in the air dispersing Techno energy at the highest levels.
Loose has scored another big hit; avant-garde sounds and sublime producers!!
