Introducing DJ Backcar aka Quakes!

Instantly hooked since discovering the world of dubstep and grime in 2007, DJ Backcar has been immersed in the sounds of UK Bass for the majority of his life, closely following the growth of 140BPM genres and subsequent rise in popularity ever since.

DJ Backcar is a project that spurred from putting down the drumsticks after 9 years as a classically-trained drummer/percussionist to pursue a professional career.

Since 2017, Backcar has orchestrated and delivered electrifying sets at clandestine bush doofs, pulsating warehouse soirées, and clandestine open-air raves. Notably, he stands as an integral part of the Sydney/Eora-based underground rave collective, Gennyada.

A certified connoisseur of bass, Backcar's deep connection with the weighty rhythms and subsonic frequencies transcends mere enjoyment—it's a form of sonic therapy. His fervent desire is to diffuse this love for soul-stirring, deeply curative music through his sets. Drawing from his rhythmic origins and entrenched within diverse underground subcultures, Backcar's affection for 140BPM styles reverberates through his mixes, an homage to the beats that accompanied his youthful escapades hanging out of the rattling bar car of trains, fused with an eclectic embrace of hip hop. His soundscape predominantly weaves the tapestry of mid-2000s "golden era" dubstep, grime, garage, and breakbeat, seamlessly interwoven with contemporary influences.

Backcar has graced numerous gatherings, underground bunkers, intimate bush doofs, and high-octane warehouse parties, including standout performances at Soul Shack Sunday Sesh warehouse rave in 2022, the impromptu Dunj warehouse house party in the same year, and the electric Gennyada God Save The Rave in 2022. 
Backcar also featured at Dunj x Astral People x Asylum's Sherelle Eora tour stop in 2023, and Sickest House, Soul Shack, Wavecult and Liquid Ritual's Astral Carnivale in 2024, with an upcoming guest mix with Mood Support on the horizon.
