Hey beautiful people, this month I wanna mix things up a little bit and I'm gonna share with you this exclusive progressive house mix I put together for my dear friends from the Identity Presents crew out west in Cali. Progressive house has been an important part of my life for a very long time now, and though I don't play this style out any more, I still appreciate it and collect proggy jams each and every month. I spent a good amount of time digging through my vinyl collection and pulled some proper oldschool numbers from the years past, and then blended them with contemporary releases from my current rekordbox case. So I hope you'll enjoy this mix as much as I did baking it!

Kalin - Live Techno Mix (Philly Pham Special - April 2020)

This month's techno demo tape is a bit more special to me because I've been getting to know a Xone:92 dj mixer up close and personal at home for some time now and this is the first mix I recorded with it. It is lots of fun to play and mess around with the RMX-1000 through the dedicated effects loop channel and the Xone's famous filters (though sometimes things can get overboard really quickly =). Kalin - Live Techno Demo (July 2020)

Hello beautiful people, tis' the Holiday season and I want to make you a gift that I hope will help say goodbye to 2020 just a bit easier. This is the sound track from a 2-hour live session we recorded a few months ago together with the Fold Theory crew on the banks of the Delaware river in Philadelphia. I find this mix to be rather special as it captures a pretty neat progression from contemporary techno to a more proper oldschool sound which I grew up with, and then finishes off on a higher note with a "medley" of some of my all-time favorite techno records. Of course, expect lots of ravey techno jawns and the usual fare of cuts, EFX and backspins which you'll find in most of my live mixes.

DJ Kalin Biography 2020

Kalin hails from the small town of Nova Zagora, Bulgaria. His love affair  with electronic music started more than two decades ago when he got hooked onto this new sound via a cassette tape with tracks from the likes of Snap!, Technotronic, and Culture Beat. During his early years Kalin was involved with the school radio, and helped organize the first electronic music events in his hometown. 

Fast forward to 2008 and you'd find Kalin on the other side of the Atlantic in Philadelphia, USA. He got his first bookings at the Vango nightclub, playing alongside Philadelphia's own Adrock, DJ Nico, Christian James, and Deep C of Tigerhook fame. Gigs at other high-profile venues followed including Lounge OneTwoFive and Z Bar. More recently, Kalin has made regular appearances behind the decks at club Mousai, Front Street Café/Liaison Room, Infusion Lounge, The Barbary and others. When Kalin has made the trip back to Bulgaria he’s played events in Sofia, Plovdiv, and his home town of Nova among others. In July 2017 Kalin had the honor of headlining the Koprinka Open Air festival in the picturesque Rose valley. In the fall of 2018 Kalin was invited to become resident of one of Philly’s top underground techno collectives - Fold Theory.

DJ Kalin indulges in mixing a tasteful blend of raw house, jackin’ tech-house and peak-time techno. His sets are heavily influenced by the technical prowess of DJing legends such as Jeff Mills, Carl Cox and Danny Tenaglia. Among Kalin' favorite labels you'll find Nervous, Stereo, 8Bit, Intec, Tronic, Unity, Transmit, Planet Rhythm - just to name a few. While playing Kalin always strives to create an energetic atmosphere of quality grooves that relentlessly move the dance floor.
