Just before Jakob Häglsperger’s debut album under his moniker Kalipo sees the light of day, the Berlin based Antime label is proud to present to you a teaser in form of a digital single set to be released on July 18. “Yaruto” not only gave the album its title, but is also the centrepiece of the abstract narrative that Häglsperger was trying to stretch out over its ten tracks on which he worked almost autonomously for over a year. It combines all the distinctive elements of Kalipo’s sound: Disembodied, chopped up vocals, warm basslines and polyrhythmic structures.

With his epic 12 minute long remix, midimúm alias Martin Steer takes the track’s danceability one step further. Steer – who not only runs Antime but has also been one of Häglsperger’s closest friends since their teenage days and has been sharing with him production and songwriting duties in the German Electropunk outfit Frittenbude for almost a decade now – explores his passion for Dub Techno and droney, synth-laden Electronica to make “Yaruto” fit for peak time hours.

On top of that, the digital bundle also includes “Andrewsarchus”, a track inspired by a lively reconstruction of the prehistoric mammal of the same name which Häglsperger once saw in the dinosaur-themed recreation park Germendorf in Eastern Germany. With its distorted analogue synth lines, flaring drones and throbbing beats, the tracks pays a claustrophobic homage to the extinct animal that is generally assumed to be a predator or scavenger.

Kalipo’s debut album Yaruto will be released on September 12. It will be followed by at least one complimentary single and various videos created by no-one else but Jakob Häglsperger himself.

When he's not touring with electro-punk legends Frittenbude or lighting up the dark disco scene with Dina Summer, Berlin-based producer Kalipo focuses on his solo work.

His new single "Any Compromises" picks up where his last EP Seeking Angels and his collaboration with Local Suicide left off — merging indie and electronic into a driving disco-punk sound rooted in krautrock and techno.

At its core: Kalipo’s warm, laid-back vocals, reflecting on letting go of old patterns and the uncompromising pursuit of happiness — even if it means leaving everything behind.

Echoes of the 2000s indie-techno era run deep here, channeling the spirit of what we now call Indie Sleaze.

My 2 hour live-set at Feel Festival 2019 was like the sword of Damocles. Behind me, a thunderstorm was brewing, in-front there was lightning in the sky and the stage manager was ready to evacuate the beach. I love that nervous energy, the slightly scary tension, moments before the heavens burst open, the power of nature. In the end, luckily there was only a heavy downpour during the final 20 minutes of my set. Some of the audience went for cover and safety, others went especially crazy and got completely soaked dancing in the heavy rain. Thanks to all of them! I will never forget this and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Kalipo is one of the most busiest and creative forces in Berlin’s electronic music scene. With over 30 million streams and global radio airplay, his solo project blends electronic intensity with emotional depth somewhere between club culture and indie aesthetics. Straight, driving beats rooted in Krautrock meet striking melodies inspired by Electroclash, House, and Techno from the 2000s and 2010s. His sound shifts between raw and emotive           – floating freely between Dark Disco, Electroclash, Wave, Techno, and House.

Kalipo himself describes his sound now as Disco Punk or Neo Punk – Tapping into a scene that's all about the spirit of today’s Indie Sleaze revival.

With five solo albums and a broad catalogue of singles and remixes on acclaimed labels like Iptamenos Discos, Ki Records, Get Physical, Audiolith Records and Heimlich, Kalipo has carved out a firm place in the scene. His releases have been praised by outlets such as Resident Advisor, TAZ, Spiegel Online, Rolling Stone, Musikexpress, DJ Mag, Mixmag, Groove, Tsugi, ELLE, and Penthouse.

Beyond his solo work, Kalipo is a founding member of the influential German band Frittenbude, which has played a key role in shaping the German Electropunk sound for nearly two decades and won the 1LIVE Krone, Germany’s top radio award. The band has regularly charted (in DACH Region) and performed at major festivals such as Rock am Ring, Rock im Park, Hurricane, and Southside – playing in front of crowds of over 40,000 people.                                                                He is also part of the Disco-Darkwave trio Dina Summer (together with Local Suicide), which was hailed by FAZE Magazine as one of the most promising upcoming electronic acts in Germany.
