Here’s the latest Theory Therapy show on Naarm’s Skylab Radio. Currently studying sonic arts in Berlin, Joseph Kamaru aka KMRU is a Nairobi-born, Berlin-based sound artist whose work is grounded on the discourse of field recording, noise, and sound art. His work posits expanded listening cultures of sonic thoughts and sound practices, a proposition to consider and reflect on auditory cultures beyond the norms, and an awareness of surroundings through creative compositions, installations, and performances. In 2020 he released Peel on the avant-garde label Editions Mego with follow up albums Opaquer, Jar, and logue, each on different labels.

“The world is unpredictable. Creation is also unpredictable. Most of the time, artists have very strong opinions and statements, so sometimes it is not easy to make music with other artists. However, for me, art is the process itself. I invited Japanese artist, yolabmi to work together on this project, expecting we can accept the complexity, embrace each other’s recording materials, and then add our own sounds within and do the editing. I arranged the first 30 minutes and yolabmi arranged the last 30 minutes. We both really enjoyed the process. Hope the audience will enjoy our journey as well.” ― Jin
