This is a rant against EDM.

I was going to do a Black History Month mix but decided against it for two reasons. 
A: It seemed too gimmicky 
B: Limiting the study of the contributions that black people have made to this country is ridiculous and insulting. Black history IS American history, the two cannot be separated.

But then I found out Chokwe Lumumba died.

Chokwe Lumumba was the first African American mayor of Jackson, Mississippi and a family acquaintance. If you dont understand the importance of this watch "Mississippi Burning" and recognize that this was not long ago. He died under very mysterious circumstances on the 25th of February to little to no fanfare in the U.S. media. I did not even know myself until my grandfather told me. This is typical America. American society is deaf, dumb and blind to the plight of it's bastard step child. "If it aint white, it aint right" Once I realized that no one was reporting this, it lit a fire in me. How could I get anyone to care? Truth is I can't, I don't live in Mississippi, I didn't really know him that well, and honestly people just don't give a fuck since the President is black. POST RACIAL AMERIKKA FUCCCK YEAAAA, WE'RE ALL EQUAL RIGHT??

Wrong. To be black in America is to live in constant fear. You are always looking over your shoulder. Whether its because you are in a rough neighborhood, a white neighborhood, or just unlucky enough to have the cops fuck with you; the fear is always looming above your head. Over the past few years Jim Crow has reared its ugly head with a vengeance and the white washing of society/history continues.

The Black experience in America has always been linked with music. From the African rhythms hidden in slave field songs, to the pain of the blues, from the celebration of life that is jazz, to the sweet sounds of Motown. It is safe to say that all American music has been heavily influenced by black people, except maybe Appalachian country music, but most would not know this. Most people don't know that Rock n Roll was a black thing first; many would argue but facts are facts.

Which brings us back to EDM, the latest music craze to hit America. I see EDM as another attempt by corporate society to white wash something and resell it to the public. First the name itself is redundant and misleading. Think about it, unless acoustic instruments are being used that shit is electronic. Besides that look at who all the big name EDM stars are. Now I'm not up on who's the hottest Top 40 soul-selling "artist", but almost whenever I see DJs making the most money there is never a black person on that list. If you go to EDM show its Chad n Becky too fucked up off what they think is Molly, fist pumping and wearing stupid clothes.

EDM has become a general term for any form of electronica nowadays. I am not one for genres but there is a staunch difference between EDM and the things that I consider holy, House & Techno. Both were created in the inner city (by darkies n gays n gay darkies), got no love from their home country and had to go abroad to gain acceptance and fame. Now that it has disseminated into the white hetero community its fair game. Corporate sponsorships are at an all time high, pumping millions of dollars to these wack ass fakers, while Chicago is labelled "Chiraq" for its homicide rate and Detroit has gone bankrupt. Why is this okay?? Why can so much go to white kids to get stoopid high and "rage" while the children descended from the originators of the music see none of that money come back to them as their community crumbles to the ground?

EDM is souless, mind numbing bullshit. Pre-packaged corporate, lowest common denominator nonsense with little to no creativity or passion. If it wasnt for blacks, latinos, gays, and Italians (remember they weren't allowed to be white until very recently, but that's another rant for another day) this shit would not exist. Muthafuckas would still be making Emo music or watever the fuck they were doing before it was cool to be a DJ. 

If you are a fan of "EDM" then take some time out to see where the roots are. Black and Latino artists are and have been making much more interesting and thought provoking music than the shit you are being fed. 

That's real talk.

"I recorded it at home on 2 Technics SL1210 MKII and an Allen & Heath Xone:23 mixer. It’s about two hours of vinyl that I recently bought and have been playing out at gigs. I’ve been spending a bit too much money on records lately, so doing this mix justifies the euros spent maybe haha. While I was recording the mix I actually got a few orders delivered to my home so in the last hour there’s a couple of fresh records from that."
