For its 10th anniversary release, the Black Art Jazz Collective, hailed by DownBeat as “a powerhouse of contemporary jazz talent,” offers ten new works that speak to both artistic assertiveness and thematic sensibility relative to the tenor of our times. As saxophonist, Wayne Escoffery relates, “I formed Black Art Jazz Collective as an all-star ensemble of African American musicians, celebrating Black culture and the origins of the music through original compositions with unapologetic pride." As for the title, Truth to Power, it refers to the protests in the aftermath of George Floyd's murder which, in many ways, sparked a resurgence in the masses speaking truth to power regarding social injustices experienced by the Black community. Escoffery continues, "BAJC is committed to speaking truth to power in a positive way through our music.
