Kanaiiya is a Psychedelic Trance project initiated by Murli from San Francisco, CA.

Murli aka DJ Kanaiiya (Kanaiiya also means Krishna, the eighth and principal avatar of Vishnu, often depicted as a handsome young man playing a flute. He appears as a charioteer and advisor of Arjuna in the Bhagavad-Gita.) was born and raised in India and has been in the San Francisco Bay Area for the last 20+ years at the confluence of the tech and psychedelic culture crossroads.

Having roots to psychedelic rock bands like Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd since he was a kid, Murli discovered the hypnotic sounds of Psychedelic Trance on the tranquil beaches of Goa during his visits there. That got him more intrigued into the genre and he got more involved with the music San Francisco's Thump Radio parties back in early 2000 when he moved here.  His passion for music is constantly ignited & inspired by his exposure to various genres of music, his sheer love for nature & travel, connecting him with fresh perspectives from people while adding up to his bubbly persona. This exposure created his his musical persona and Kanaiiya took life.

In a short span of time, he has played at festivals and venues in USA and India. Having organized the Space Elevator camp in Burning Man in 2009 and other events in the Bay Area, his track selection is more akin to building out a story with a flowy, melodic feel. His sets can be defined as Goa-esqe being deeply atmospheric infused with grounded baselines, and enchanting melodies designed to create a deep and involved dance floor experience. His wide range of musical style's span from progressive trance, full-on to middle-of-the-road night-time psytrance.
