This track is based around the idea of opening up ones perspective, trying to encourage multiple points of view. I have a great interest in all the sciences with a particular focus on astro-physics and chemistry, i wanted to use my knowledge within these fields to expand on the idea of perspective using loose scientific analogies. Because of the nature of the topic I decided to use a lydian feel with swirling delays and other effects.

A point of view, for you. To think about. Not just your opinion but the idea of a directional viewpoint. A representation of something that doesn’t have any direction. Yet, that same notion is interpreted differently, by us all. How individual are you? Are you unique just like an entire generation has been brought up to believe?  How individual are you? 

	If we are all able to think differently then surely somewhere within 7 billion brains lay the answer to the largest and hardest of humanities questions. With an infrastructure based around repetitive knowledge regurgitated onto a piece of paper, we are told we are all different, we can all be special. 

But if we are all different then how can the same system be expected to produce maximum productivity and the next Einstein, the next Hawkins, Hendrix, Holiday, Nightingale. How individual are you? Can you really make a worthwhile change to this world? How individual are you? 

See the point is perspective, the point is to be different, you cannot change the world without changing you. Now perspective is elective, you must elect yourself, you must choose. How individual are you? And to answer this the problem is what if perspective is the reason we think we are different. What if. What if. What if. 

What if you choose to believe what you see and hear and feel and touch and taste, without haste if you eat an apple you taste an apple. Like everyone else. How individual are you? 

We like to think the earth as an individual thing. a body of mass that has given refuge, a huge home we call our own. A ball spinning on its axis suspended in space, orbiting a large body of mass, the sun. a well hung star at the centre of attention as far as we can see. 
But you can go further, whilst still thinking about earth with in all these systems, each layer provides a different perspective of the earth as its role changes in each layer. A black hole centring the galaxy, and earth becomes just a quark of the galaxy a building block or sub particles of sub atomic particles. 
 
Zoom back in, and then zoom some more, you are now the black hole and the electrons that make up the atoms that make up your skin are now the equivalent, the earths of your finger tips. You become the ultimate dictating force from this point of view. Do you have full control though? Have you ever touched anyone or anything? Of course you have.

What if. What if. What if you haven’t ever touched or been touched. Of course I have, I touch things everyday! Perspective is key. What ultimately makes up you is tissue, specialised cells. Complex proteins and other molecules make up those cells. This cellular material, protein for example, is made of smaller building blocks, amino acids in this case. These building blocks are made up of atoms, which means the outer most part of everything we are, are just electrons spinning, creating what seems like a shell. These negatively charged particles oppose each other so when  you try to touch any other thing. you aren’t actually touching in the way you think you are. You are opposing them as a force and the sensation of that force is just the repulsion of what you try to touch. 

Think about all of this. Think about you.

Now ask yourself

Spacepective - Songwriting Task 1

This task was rather difficult and resulting in a lot of time being spent on adjusting riffs and sections to fit this swing/contemporary jazz feel. The overall all song is a work in progress as it stands in this upload, some of the bass needs adjusting and I'd like to add more horns and more to the current horns. Also the solo section has been left empty for now as i plan on finishing this track and having real horns recorded in instead of the midi instruments currently on the track. i enjoyed this, despite the troubles i had, it really put this song in to a new light for me. enjoy.

Bygone Jazz Fire - Underkript (songwriting Task 2)

So for this track I wanted to try my best to pay a fitting tribute to the late Ronnie James Dio. In terms of songwriting and singing style he has been a massive influence on me. A you can probably hear my voice and style tends to gravitate slightly more towards a Hetfield-esk style but none the less the whole style of the music and the intent behind the lyrics are very much Dio, so I like to think. I really enjoyed making this track as the music started to flow rather quickly and the lyrics wrote them self practically. I make a fair number of references toward Dio with things like the year of birth but also with lyrical references such as 'that was your life' is a reference to a beautiful piano/strings acoustic song with Dio fronting the ensemble. the lyrics were set out in verse chorus section and for the 3 verses i wrote i then cut up the lyrics on paper and randomised them to create 3 completely different verse which I feel actually come across better then the original I wrote. 

RJD - Songwriting Task 3

due to the nature of the task this week i decided to take my love of grime a step further and actually write a grime tune (or part of one). This task was to experiment with phrasing/delivery of a vocal to so how it can affect/ alter the feel. in the this track it is a short verse, chorus(hook), verse structure. the lyrics of the two verses are the same but i played around with the delivery to change almost the style or type of grime youd associate with each 'flow'. the first verse is fast and fluent with little pause and mostly common divisions of the beat. the second verse, after the hook, has a more start/stop feel to it with rest inbetween as overall the phrases are delivered faster. the first 8 bars demonstrate the beat of the tune which i particularly like as it feels and sounds like a properly produced grime beat that the likes of BBK would spit some fire in the booth to.

Songwriting Task 4 - rhythmic variation.

for this task we had to use specific words in  our lyrics, primarily as words within the rhyme scheme. because these words sort of dictated the course of the song in terms of lyrical content i decided to try and write a bit of a jazzy love song sort of feel. i enjoy playing around with the harmony and though the harmony in the tune moves around quite a bit in the a section the b section is just a jazz blues in Bb. i wanted to play with jazz harmony as much as possible  as i enjoy it and i feel i have been slightly successful in creating a journey through the music via the harmonic content. please excuse the vocals on this has i have had to leave it till last minute due to an excruciating ulcer but i tried my best. i would like to spend alot more time on the meldoic lines through this tune as i feel this song could develop in to something quite special if i spend some more time on it. thanks for listening and reading if you made it this far, enjoy. 
 

Coffee Pot - Task 5 songwriting

this is going to evolve into the first track for my EP, 'Broken Bridges'. the idea behind the EP is to take away expectation by using aspects from different styles but instead of building on those idea, using those idea to take away from the foundation to force a new way of writing. The whole concept has featured a lot of heavy jazz writing but has also forced me to write jazz harmony in a way that can be applied and broken down into a popular song form, or hopefully thats the idea any way, ive ben busy writing the second song to the EP whilst writing this song as well hence why this song is quite finished lyric wise but there shall be some lyric and hopefully suited vocals, please enjoy.

demo of first track for EP 'broken bridges'

this song began as an experiment of harmony and a way of writing. the verse section  was originally a 12 bar progression and was doubled into 24 bars so the drums could play a double time feel. i wanted to keep the verse instrumental but i feel now that they would suit a certain type of lyric which i intend to add, i have lyrics but will be adding later as i will also be adding a bridge/solo section and outro. i focused on the music and wrote out the chord progression for the verse and then added a melody over the top, in essences i created my own little jazz lead sheet and wrote the melody to go with the harmony and it is this were i have utilised the strings for this weeks task, at points there are harmonies and some block chords but it isn't quite as clear in the mix as i hoped, the plan is to write a bridge section the uses block voicing so the string will play the full harmony and then use the guitar as the melodic instrument. 

Task 7 W/strings  'It Don't Make Sense'

so i wanted to do something that i thought would be out there and different to what others might think of writing considering the brief was to write a song called 'I Want You'. Hence i decided to do a sex fuelled rock song about a 'weapon of sex destruction'. it is 2 verses and 1 chorus with a little bridge section in between verse 2 and the chorus and at the end. guitars were tuned to Eb standard, half a step down from standard. vocals recorded on a macbook microphone. the guitar riffs with thought through first and chorus lyrics already written, i tried my to make it as classic (hair) metal as possible and turned out a little bluesy but i do like musical backing.
