I wonder if the GNR PF issue is because of UV printing (the latest trend) on wood.  UV ink is more of an adhesive rather than a solvent based ink that tends to soak in a bit to the PF.  According to some web sites, putting down a clear coat layer first helps with adhesion.  Perhaps Mirco boxed themselves into a corner buying an expensive UV printer who's UV inks are not well suited to wood products?
