raster-noton has established a core group of artists, many of which were undiscovered talents. in this tradition the new release is no exception.

kangding ray aka david letellier arrives at raster-noton artist collective with his first album »stabil«. born in france and based in berlin, letellier evolved as a guitarist and drummer in various bands whose influences ranged from rock and pop to jazz before moving into electronic music. »stabil« is a reflection of letellier's background as it integrates guitar loops, bass lines, residual noise, acoustic instruments and digital anomalies to create a textured soundscape. as the label is looking into new directions, kangding rays' debut makes its mark as an interesting attempt to find a balance between the flow of melodies and the ever changing structure of rhythm.

Always & Forever (Decaying Spheres)

Brittany-based artist Tabensi, with a mosaic of sounds he's particularly fond of. 

"Multi-instrumentalist from an early age, I developed my musical universe as a dj a few years back. When I arrived in the medieval city of Dinan two years ago, I started to work on a new label called Estuary Tapes. 

Inspired by Brittany coasts, the project was born in November celebrating with a compilation gathering artists I love. It reflects my musical  influences beetween deep ambient, dub and breakbeat. In the same time I also started producing and working with electronic stuff. My first track is available on this compilation with this new alias Tabensi. 

This selection is a little piece of of my sound ecosystem recorded during a rainy tuesday afternoon. A modern story with nostalgic and ethereal feels."

What is the sound of the end? How does one acoustically convey that something is over? Computers have had a shutdown sound; movies play a melody while rolling credits and even the end of human life has a sound attached to it, courtesy of Chopin. Heatherbrae, an excellent track from Thomas Gray & Liam Ebbs feels like it's a sountrack to an end of some sort. Its deliberate and sparse pacing of someone who's no longer rushing, its "I-am-at-peace" synth chords as well as casual and relaxed drumming all seem to say: "It has been a lovely experience; I laughed and i cried, I've learned and I've grown but now it's over”.

From his early releases on the legendary german imprint raster-noton, to his more recent output aimed at the club, Kangding Ray managed to trace a singular trajectory, navigating the unexplored territories between experimental music and dance music.

Through his consistency as both Live performer and DJ, and a number of critically acclaimed releases, Kangding Ray showed his ability to keep a genuine artistic approach, while slowly crafting a unique universe, equally focused on emotional response and visceral impact.

Kangding Ray’s music tests boundaries, evolving constantly in its exploration of texture and rhythms, while talking equally to the body and the mind.
From his past as architect, Kangding Ray kept a multidisciplinary approach to art, applying his craft in diverse artistic fields such as visual arts, film scores, audiovisual installations and dance performances.
