Crafted out of passion and precision united, a love for the genre, the scene, and a clear ability to finely design and designate a piece of music to its sole purpose, ‘No Reason To Be Disturbed EP’, makes for an out-of-body listen that works in and of itself as the late-night playlist the lifelong techno fan craves.

As an introduction, the title-track builds up with presence, power and pace – rising from the bare essentials towards the distorted synth appeal of a heavy and hypnotic drop. Weave in a select few vocal fragments and details to further this evolution, and the completed post-six-minute journey refuses to loosen its grip throughout. 

‘Future Tears’ follows and there’s warmth and bass-thick reverberation intertwined with echoes of distant melody – a sudden grip of intention. Venturing into a highly emotional, even haunting arena of energy and sound – a rising and falling, wave-like wash of melancholy and uncertainty.

Softening the blow somewhat is the unmistakable historical context and relentless rhythm of ‘Ravey Days on Mondays’, complete with its briefly cut and compiled intricacies of nineties dance and voice and movement. There’s optimism here, euphoria and sheer joy as the memories and connections come pouring through. 

‘H-Core’ brings things to an intriguing finish, maintaining the essential building blocks of tempo and production character, injecting new hits though – of voice, purpose, effect and growing anticipation. Swallowing the listener entirely, the peak of an implied nitrous hit as escapism intensifies and the rhythm limitlessly picks up. 

‘No Reason To Be Disturbed’ acts not only as a reminder of the focus, skill and dedication that David LaFhionntain brings to modern and timeless techno, but also as an introduction to some of his most compelling and memorable compositions yet.

Showcasing a clear skill for the fine art of music production, with an unquestionable passion for the process, LaFhionntain hits hard from the offset and refuses to lower the bar. 

Survival Rate follows with a somewhat nostalgic, vintage beat. Compressed to a fine degree, an immediately hypnotic aura embraces the listener, offering increasing layers of expressive creativity. Brilliantly energizing, a strangely meditative moment of classic late-night techno. 

Throwing a little tribalism into the playlist, Bring Out The Dead is a high octane explosion of angst and manic musicality. Contrasting a heavy beat with a swirling downpour of delicate notes, the track keeps that LaFhionntain sense of progression and power alive as it punches hard throughout its near-six-minute lifespan. 

As should be the way with authentic compositions for this genre, the louder you let it play, the stronger the effect. Nowhere is this more true than on Battling The Void. Misleading its audience with a minimalist introduction, the track goes on to present an outpouring of absolute darkness and short-lived, captivating melody. That haunting riff gives the mind something to cling to as the body gets swept away by relentless rhythm. Rising up further, towards an ultimately ecstatic final third, the track brings the energy sky high, before laying you back down with somewhat more gentle intensity. 

Released under Kaotic Hypnotik, every detail has been finely crafted to create that boldly enchanting ambiance that was the original, intentional core of the genre. Escapism at its greatest.

Forever at the forefront of hard-hitting techno, David LaFhionntain strikes once again with an intense air of apocalyptic darkness. The new project pours through like an unsettling and poignant ode to this particular time in our lives.

From the depths and relentless weight of 'Abandoning Reality', the EP kicks into gear with a minimalist stab of a classic techno rhythm; alongside a haunting, hypnotically simple synth riff.

Meandering and changing direction just subtly at various stages in its progression, ‘My Transcendence’ evokes uncertainty. The galloping kick and bassline, screeching synth and loopy arpeggiators, with ever-increasing reverb, take us on a five-minute-plus journey which drowns out the weight of the world in a bizarrely hypnotic journey.

A broader synth ambiance builds up and up in 'Into The Shadows', enveloping the listener as this retro, classic and nostalgic techno track fills the room.

'Surrender To Insanity's' minimal melody and an upfront hi-hat adds depth and dynamic - ultimately immersing and engaging in a profound fashion. The sudden onslaught of a screaming, distorted, bass-led central section follows a touch of melody.

The EP’s title track, 'United Under Darkness', balances the weight and certainty of its beat, with a piercing sense of strangeness that is these creatures of movement slowly closing in on you. From a production standpoint, the rising intensity is brilliantly well executed. Multiple layers of detail and experimental audio subtly but surely creep into the mix.

Rather than take to releasing single after single, David LaFhionntain is of a rare breed. Driving with extensive experience and unwavering passion for the genre, his conceptual approach gifts listeners a short yet significant playlist of go-to, infectious and impactful escapism. United Under Darkness as an idea, a sentiment, is perhaps what we all need to work on becoming.
