I followed, watching each of her steps carefully as she picked a precarious path. The rubble to our left was perilously unstable, one false step was likely to set the entire edifice sliding with us in the middle, an avalanche of dust, metal and concrete.
Overhanging to the right, the rusted metal of old silos, their gantries and ladders peeled off at all angles like the splayed legs of dead spiders. Arachnids, that if disturbed were likely to come down upon us, trapped forever in their dilapidated iron webs.

This was the only passage. If we ventured east we were bound to run into one of the patrols, any more to the west was toxic fallout country, septic and noxious... ahead, a chance."
