"A brassy, upbeat number from the elusive Hamms Beer industrial show of 1965, titled 'Hamms 65 Bursting With Freshness!' This track was written by veteran industrial composer Lloyd Norlin who, before passing away a couple of years back, brought the corporate world a slew of great shows for companies like Pepsi, Ford and Marshall Fields department stores, to name a few that have turned up on record.

There can be no misconceptions about the message to this song, which clearly amounts to something like, 'Let's sell the kids lots of alcohol!' And what better way for a hardened Hamms salesman to celebrate his company's centennial? This LP was pressed on nice blue vinyl, and could be easily mistaken for a generic promo record if you didn't look at the track list on the back cover. Find it and then celebrate with a beer!"

The A-side of Vincent Price's 1977 album (attributed to "Mr. Vincent Price") about wine, cooking, and dinner parties. No, I am not kidding. The same label, Nelson Industries, put out an album of Price's Italian cooking instructions.

The title track from this Belgian ska/reggae band's 1979 debut album. They were also known later as the "Jamaican Survivors."

A super reggae team-up of Max Romeo, Niney The Observer, and Lee "Scratch" Perry.  

Maxie/Niney/Scratch - "Babylon's Burning" (1972)

A slice of San Francisco punk, the singer bears a certain vocal resemblance to Jello Biafra (in my mind). 

Symptoms- "Be  On Top" (1980)

Northern Irish bar band, who fell in with the Belfast punk/new wave scene with catchy cuts like this one. This was their 2nd single, and first for Polydor Records.

Red Squares- "Ottawa Today" (1979)

"Though they weren't around for long, Advertising managed one brilliantly eccentric album, 1978's Jingles. The punk-era Cambridge pop band formed in 1976 around Tot Taylor and Simon Boswell, both of whom strummed and sang. Taylor had appeared earlier in A Special Moment and the Blue Kittens, a theatrical band which released no material but did compose a musical. The punk explosion inspired Taylor to form a pop band, and with Boswell, he decided on the name Advertising. The early single "Lipstick" just missed the UK charts in 1977 (and deserved much better), but the group signed with EMI Records for their debut album, Jingles. Its lack of success, however, caused the band's break-up. While Taylor began a solo career soon after, Boswell emerged first as a producer and later as the founder of Live Wire and Data."

From the 1996 "Destroy What Destroys You" album and the 1997 "Punk Uprisings, Volume 2" compilation (the latter led me to the latter). This is basically the ultimate ska-punk song, if you're asking me. Play loud, and preferably at an authority figure.

The first track off their 1998 "Field Operations" EP on TKO Records and probably the best song they ever wrote. One of my favorites.
