Innervisions' Secret Weapons series is always worth a look, if only for the opportunity it gives to delve into Dixon's CD wallet and see what he's been hammering over the last six months. As usual, there's plenty of Grade A material to enjoy, from the undulating rhythms and drifting chords of Hunter Game's "Ice", to the forceful electronics, woozy pads and dreamy vocal snatches of Flowers & Sea Creatures' picturesque "Overworld". Elsewhere, Nu Tone delivers some intense afterparty fare in the shape of "Rumble", while Ripperton reaches for the lasers on the shuffling deep house gem "Unfold". Arguably best of all, though, is Aera's "Freak Wave", a midtempo shuffler that boasts a wonderfully warm, organic feel, with rich percussion and fuzzy analogue synth-work.

Nuno dos Santos’ boutique label SoHaSo (shorthand for Something Happening Somewhere; although, sadly the same can no longer be said of Trouw) has been cruising steadily for the best part of two years now, but "Tonii" might just be the best thing committed to wax yet. Love Over Entropy's 12m original is sturdy with bright flourishes throughout, forever climbing and searching without resolve; techy without, y'know, being techy. 

This retouch comes from none other than Innervisions' main man, although  less overtly lovelorn than we've come to expect. He  twists the lead melody into something resembling a steel pan drum, backed by laser-guided synths pinging all around: a festival-sized breakdown held just at the precipice, never fully cresting. Dixon, you big tease.

UK talent John Monkman is the next to make his mark on Crosstown Rebel sub-label Rebellion, with the rapturous two tracker EPOCH. 

"EPOCH began its journey after a recent show in Goa, India. I wanted the track to almost tare itself apart, forever pushing forward carving out new sonic landscapes. XAILO is comprised of layer upon layer of syncopated xylophone, bells and string section held together with a haunting Icelandic vocal I recorded in London." - John Monkman

John Monkman shot firmly into the limelight in 2015 with his collaboration with Pete Tong, plus a remix of Solomon Grey’s Twilight, which topped the Beatport charts reaching #1. Monkman has released music on some the world’s biggest and most cutting-edge labels including Kompakt, Crosstown Rebels and Get Physical, which have all received high critical acclaim and support across the board. 2016 also saw him launch his own label Beesemyer Music. 

2017 will be a standout year for Monkman, with music already signed to Rebellion, Crosstown Rebels, Noir and the fourth collaboration with Pete Tong in the pipeline. Expect to see big things from this London-based artist.
