This is an oral history document about the Young Womens Empowerment Project in Chicago. It was a peer-based organization to strengthen the self-determination of young girls of color. This collection of oral histories was made to reflect how this group prioritized their relationships to one another as a form of harm reduction and social justice activism. They were compelled to close their non-profit 501c3 status in 2013 due to capacity, funding, and political pressures. These stories show that the group's work continued after they changed their status because a non-profit status was not the fabric of their power.
