This can’t be real. It just seems so absurd.
You’d think if we’re so civilized,
There’d be fewer guns in the world.

But there’s 26 dead in Newtown and more deaths this week I heard,
If guns aren’t the problem, I just can’t find the words.

I don’t want assault weapons, kept in my home town.
Somebody might take them, and start shooting the neighbours down.

These are not the muskets of a man defending his farm.
These are high powered, killing machines,
That rapid-fire thirty rounds.

Too many guns,

I don’t understand it. It just seems so absurd.
If guns aren’t the problem, I just can’t find the words.

These shooters want our attention,
And the weapons that they choose,
Guarantee dead bodies, for their shot at the evening news.

These young men could be anybody’s sons,
Desperate possibilities with so many guns.
