She told me her black coffee was good for my heart
our organs rattle themselves apart

The journal that she wrote in didn't hold any words --
paisley curls and origami birds.

When I told her I would write her she called back

Day-cold coffee in a pot of steel

Since I left I've come to think that it was cruel
to leave my hands but take my heart
