On his debut album Feelin’, Ivory marries hi-tech sound design with the emotional pull of house for 10 tracks shaped by a multitude of club music and R&B. Album opener “Voices” infuses noirish melodratma with playful, pitch-shifted vocals that instantly lighten the mood. Next up, “Blank” draws from a similar blueprint, bolstered by low end pressure and ruptured rhythms. 

Ivory explains how “Do It My Way” embodies the underlying concept of Feelin’; “taking something and reworking it into a new shape that reflects your own personality as artist”. A cool electro cut warmed through with a dreamy hook, here, uplifting piano chords set the stage for what happens next. “Feelin’” is a dancefloor slammer, a healthy balance of tension and release that comes with an invite to conquer the floor. Heating up the album’s core, Tagliaferri works up an appetite for “I Need You Now”; a hulking warehouse cut built from barrelling, muscular kicks and a diced up diva house-esque vocal.

For “What I Do,” we are transported to a land of French touch with high-voltage basslines aplenty while the propulsive “Try” pulls the crowd back into room one for a huge, anthemic floor-filler underpinned by jagged synths. Ivory describes “Don’t Lose Control” as “one of the more emotional moments of the LP”; a track centered around dreamy pads, smooth house synth stabs and a disembodied post-human voice that sounds eerily poetic.

The LP’s penultimate track “Steps” leans on swirling, pearlescent keys and a sweet, balearic-tinged melody before “I Know What You Want” offers the ultimate sign-off statement, slicing through the razor-sharp mesh of synthwork with dueling vocals and sparky beats. Ivory creates his music by working with hardware, plug-ins, samples, and field recordings and he bundles all of this know-how into a distinctive album that lends itself to both reflection and liberation.

True to the pop-infused progressive touch he's come to advocate through his own compositions and various remixes over the years, Oliver's rework of Brigado Crew 'Symbiosis' packs that mix of beach sunset-ready dreaminess and apex-climbing buildup to overflow any dance floor it visits with hair-raising panache. The second cut 'There is Something Special about Boxhagener Platz' dwells the more intimate side of the spectrum with its slo-dripping suavity unfolding to the soft, hazed out tap of jazzy drums and liquid-like slap bass moves. Summoning the debonair funkiness of his most silken blends, Koletzki has us diving headlong into a milk-and-honey-ish pool of sound, fusing the very finest of sluggishly sensual boogie with his impeccable flair for finding the sweet, lighthearted melody that will stick with you and shake off any sour feeling effortlessly.

Following last year's soul-stirring 'Incandesence' EP, Sly Faux slinks back into the MOOD camp with three more startling technoir escapades.

Goosebumps set to shudder: from the moment the palpitating sub and kick pattern of 'Dandellion' blooms into life, a fully immersive tale unfolds. The ghostly yearns, Rahmondau's harmonically layered, melancholic vocals, the cosmic textures, the overall rising sense of tension, the overwhelming low end… The young Australian talent is playing with some very fine alchemy right here.

'This Made You' flips for a much more visceral experience. Pounding tribal drums, ricocheting percussion and an abyssal drop into black hole bliss give no hint of the evocative cathedralic arpeggio that emerges midway. Gradually, some might even say slyly, Faux enshrouds us in a mystical hook that twists and turns, alluring our imagination with it. Once again, it's another mesmerising trip.

Finally MOOD mainstay and respected Spanish sonic craftsman Marino Canal closes the show with a fittingly beautiful remix. Subverting the lead and running it through his own maze of questions, answers and heavy emotions, it maintains the original's spiritual charm while adding its own narrative.

Overt techno mysticism at its finest, delivered just when we need it. We expect Sly Faux will be prowling back into the MOOD camp very soon again…
