The first sound expedition organized by the “Silno residence”
in collaboration with the “Weird Nights” project, took place in April 2023. The result of the trip was a music compilation, which included tracks from the expedition residents, made on the basis of or using the found sounds.

In the spring of 2023, 11 musicians came to Dagestan to hear him. The journey began in Derbent - the oldest city in Russia, five thousand years old. This is the best place to study the invisible boundaries: between tradition and innovation, natural and man-made, temporary and eternal.

The meeting of moving boundaries is manifested in the landscapes of the place, including and especially through the soundscape. Careful listening, aimed at distinguishing between sound events and noise, signals and marks, reveals the character of a place in a way different from that conveyed by vision.

The first stage of the expedition – engaged listening and recording – lasted five days, three of which were spent in the city and two more in the mountains. The second stage was the comprehension and processing of the material. By sampling and re-sampling recordings, the residents created their own tracks inspired by the nature and culture of Dagestan.

[BR-052] V/A – AFFLICTION feels eerily enchanting and hauntingly mesmerizing. It gathers the full spectrum of sonic states — from muffled, abrasive noise and broken drums to immersive rhythms that accelerate and dissolve into slow, dragging pulses, creating a hypnotic flow where time slips away. It seeps through your body, leaving vibrations deep within. The rhythmic structures are strange and unpredictable, shifting like fractured thoughts or distorted reflections. There’s a mechanical precision to the pulse — cold, relentless — yet it evokes something deeply visceral. The shifting tempos become physical: sudden bursts provoke a primal urge to tear everything apart — or yourself — while the slowdowns wrap around you like thick, meditative darkness, pulling you into something unstable and fluid.
