EPM Podcast 178 comes from HI ROSIE. The up and coming French producer has been catching ears with his sensitive yet propulsive productions that are gracing labels such as Laurent Garnier’s Cod3 QR, Miley Serious’ 99 cts records, Bad Tips, and more. Here the Lyon based producer brings his twisted bass sound to the EPM podcast, fusing tracks from Ayesha, NKC, BAMBII feat Aluna, DJ Polo, Nick León feat. DJ Babatr, Hemdi and Bianca Oblivion all topped off with a dash of unreleased HI ROSIE productions.

DJ and producer HI ROSIE, spotted by Laurent Garnier and endorsed by major artists on the world scene such as Tzusing and Sinjin Hawke, produces music rooted in furious, contemporary bass music, where the boundaries of the genre are shaken to the core. Under the aegis of a minimalism where it is not a question of adding but rather of removing to finish, its essence lies in a rejection of overproduction and a race to the essential. A quest for the simple and the effective. 

Between raw FM synthesis, lyrical vocals, romantic orchestral instruments and deconstructed rhythms, the artist offers us two distinct aesthetics in his music: one where the energy of the club and the dance is at the centre, and the other, much more sensitive and romantic.

EPM Podcast #178 – HI ROSIE

With an extensive back catalogue behind him techno pioneer D-Knox continues to fire on all cylinders in modern times. His multi decade spanning career has seen him paint a colourful journey behind him, playing an integral part in the history of Techno and the development of its early stages amongst the greats in the US. Raw edge sounds with a killer groove at the heart, meandering between the sounds of Detroit, and the heavier shades of the techno spectrum are what have earned him his reputable status. His DJ sets manoeuvre between similar sounds, dusting off golden era rarities and combining them with productions of today from himself and artists he has met along the way.  
 
Growing up in Kalamazoo (Michigan USA) the acclaimed producer soaked up the influences from each and every corner he could. The city sits comfortably between Chicago and Detroit, and this fact has played a huge factor in his dynamic sound and journey as an artist. With two vital homes of house and techno around the corner enabled a young Knox to witness the heyday of this sound as a generation moulded the future of electronic music. His cousin Jay Denham, founder of Black Nation played a key role in this animated quest as the early 90s saw the pair begin to produce, and dig deeper into the legendary scenes they were fortunate enough to be surrounded by.
 
Knox’s essential Sonic Mind imprint firmly stands the test of time with the 90s label still growing to this day, playing a key part amongst the record bags of tastemakers throughout the years. Fast forward to today and the label is still providing a safe haven for discerning club sounds and beyond, in a time of over saturation and imitation here we have an artist and label who is always striving to be outside the box, offering something new and interesting at each and every opportunity. Inspired by a generation, and now has the task of sharing his knowledge and positive energy.
 
All of this has laid the foundations for what has been a bright career for D-Knox, his innovative sound always evolving with his timeless productions and story telling trips within the booth are a sure sign he is not slowing down in the years to come; a new mix series on the way, label releases signed off and some fresh merchandise paying homage to his roots

The mastermind behind Basic Channel, Hard Wax and Rhythm & Sound doesn't do mixes. For RA.1000, he made an exception.

Trace Mark Ernestus's path, and you trace the evolution of electronic sound itself. The timeline of contemporary Berlin is unimaginable without him. At first, that meant Hard Wax, the crucial hub that shaped the early era of the city's techno revolution. Carl Craig once said it plainly: "Mark was ground zero."

From there, Ernestus never stopped. There's the birth of dub techno and the near-flawless catalogue that followed through Basic Channel and Rhythm & Sound. There's his immersion in Senegalese mbalax with Ndagga Rhythm Force. Lately, that means Open Ground the Wuppertal bunker that's letting people hear music as never before.

As part three of RA.1000, Ernestus has kindly supplied his first studio DJ mix. As you might expect, it's technically immaculate, but more than that, it feels like a substantial and generous conduit to one of the world's most vital genres.

Amapiano remains underexplored in music media. Publications like our own are still learning to keep pace with the South African sound's global pull, animating millions across the globe. 

You'll hear the range and richness of the genre across the near two-hour mix, from the gothic, percussive stomp of Caltetonic's "Bambela"  to the devotional glow of GemValleyMusiq's "Something Spiritual."

Through all of this, Ernestus has remained understated. He lets the music speak for him, with a quiet honesty that lies in decades of opening doors—creating the conditions for new sounds and scenes to flourish and carry the culture forward.

To celebrate this turning point, we are proud and delighted to host such an iconic figure from the Techno scene. Starting his DJ career in the 80’s, Orlando Voorn is a pioneer in all meanings of the word. 

The Dutch legend finely highlights his impressive and wide knowledge of music in this contribution and manage to merge in one piece all the shades of Techno we offered so far in the series. Hats off!
