As a few of you might know i have  club night in Cologne called Vinyl Vibes. It is running since 15 years and focusing on rare old Jazz, Soul, Funk & Brasil as well as modern club music influenced by that. 
Our first ever DJ guest from outside of Cologne was Rainer Trüby, back in 1998. His way of mixing old and new stuff in a great flow not only caused some madness on the dance floor that night, it also changed my view on DJing in general. 
So i was more than happy to coincidently find the tapes of that set while digging through some old cassettes.  
Here it is, an inside view into a time where combining Jazz & Brasil with modern beats was not a trend, sucked dry by the music industry, but history in the making. 
Back in 1998 at the Vinyl Vibes, Rainer made all of us pretty glücklich :)

Rainer Trüby @ Vinyl Vibes 1998 Part I

Karsten John`s passion for music started in his early childhood, learning his first instrument by the age of 6. He later studied Jazz guitar at the Institute of the Arts in Arnhem before coincidently becoming a DJ in the mid 90s. His highly sucessful first residency got him infected with club culture and night life and after moving to Cologne he founded the now legendary Vinyl Vibes club night in 1998. The party quickly became internationally known for being a hot spot for old and new Jazz infected grooves. Soon Karsten started touring worldwide bringing his Vinyl Vibes to clubs in Europe, Canada, USA, South America and Australia. Due to collecting lots of unreleased music on his DJ tours he was taking the next step in 2004 by founding Vinyl Vibes Records to release some of his favourite gems.
Being the musical face of Vinyl Vibes Records, Karsten transported the freestyle idea behind the label in his DJ sets. Rare and undiscovered 60s and 70s Sounds mixed with any kind of modern club beats be it Deep House, Drum`n`Bass, Down Tempo, Broken & Afro Beats, for a unique dancefloor experience.
In 2012 Karsten John decided to focus on his love for Deep House and Electronic Music by founding a new club night called Love.Beats. It is irregularly taking place in Cologne and apart from his Resident Nights it's also featuring guests like Trickski, Mister Saturday Night, Peter Pardeike or Peter Kruder.
Of course you can still find Karsten playing his music for selected dance floors around the world.
