14 Maagh (27th January 2022) marked the Janam Divas of Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji . This Katha video by Giani Baljinder Singh Ji (Shaheedi Bunga UK) covers some facts on the Mahaan Jeevan of the great Brahamgiani, Scholar and Warrior. As a child, Baba Ji was brought to the sanctuary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji in Anandpur Sahib, where in a short period Baba Ji mastered languages such as Gurmukhi, Sanskrit, Braj Bhasha and Persian. Where it is a great task to master one language Baba Ji gained the Vidhya of all these languages in just three years, such was the Kirpa of Guru Sahib and Baba Ji’s dedication and love for Vidhya. When Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji started the writing of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji at Damdama Sahib taking 9 months and 9 days, Bhai Mani Singh Ji Shaheed was blessed to be the scribe, and Baba Deep Singh Ji was given the Seva of making the ink, kalam (bamboo pens) and preparing the kaagaz (paper) for Bhai Sahib Ji to use. Baba Ji along with Bhai Mani Singh Ji was part of the 48 Singhs who learnt the Santhia (correct pronunciation) and Arth (meanings) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji directly from Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Afterwards, Guru Gobind Singh Ji gave the duty of continuing the teaching of this Brahm Vidhya to Bhai Mani Singh Ji and Baba Deep Singh Ji.

ਕੂੜੁ ਰਾਜਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਪਰਜਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਸਭੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
kooR raajaa kooR parajaa kooR sabh sa(n)saar ||
ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਛਲ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਦਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਛਲ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ), (ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ) ਰਾਜਾ (ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਕਈ ਲੋਕ) ਪਰਜਾ (ਹਨ) 
False is the king, false are the subjects; false is the whole world.

ਕੂੜੁ ਮੰਡਪ ਕੂੜੁ ਮਾੜੀ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੈਸਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

(ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਤੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਾਮਿਆਨੇ ਤੇ ਮਹਲ ਮਾੜੀਆਂ (ਹਨ, ਇਹ) ਭੀ ਛਲ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਰਾਜਾ) ਭੀ ਛਲ ਹੀ ਹੈ ।
False is the mansion, false are the skyscrapers; false are those who live in them.

ਕੂੜੁ ਸੁਇਨਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਰੁਪਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਪੈਨ੍ਹਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
kooR suinaa kooR rupaa kooR pain(h)nahaar ||
ਸੋਨਾ, ਚਾਂਦੀ (ਅਤੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਨਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਭੀ) ਭਰਮ ਰੂਪ ਹੀ ਹਨ,
False is gold, and false is silver; false are those who wear them.

ਕੂੜੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਪੜੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
kooR kaiaa kooR kapaR kooR roop apaar ||
ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਅਕਾਰ, (ਸੋਹਣੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ) ਕੱਪੜੇ ਅਤੇ (ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਰੂਪ ਇਹ ਭੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਛਲ ਹੀ ਹਨ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਮਦਾਰੀ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਆਏ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਵਿਖਾ ਹਿਹਾ ਹੈ) ।
False is the body, false are the clothes; false is incomparable beauty.

ਕੂੜੁ ਮੀਆ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੀਬੀ ਖਪਿ ਹੋਏ ਖਾਰੁ ॥
kooR meeaa kooR beebee khap hoe khaar ||
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਤੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ, ਕਿਤੇ) ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ; ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਭੀ ਛਲ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ, ਜੋ (ਇਸ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਮਰਦ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੰਬੰਧ-ਰੂਪ ਛਲ ਵਿਚ) ਖਚਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ।
False is the husband, false is the wife; they mourn and waste away.

ਕੂੜਿ ਕੂੜੈ ਨੇਹੁ ਲਗਾ ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥
kooR kooRai neh lagaa visariaa karataar ||
(ਇਸ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਮਾਨ) ਛਲ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਛਲ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਭੁੱਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।
The false ones love falsehood, and forget their Creator.

ਕਿਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਕੀਚੈ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਚਲਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
kis naal keechai dhosatee sabh jag chalanahaar ||
(ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ) ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਭੀ ਮੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ।
With whom should I become friends, if all the world shall pass away?

ਕੂੜੁ ਮਿਠਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਮਾਖਿਉ ਕੂੜੁ ਡੋਬੇ ਪੂਰੁ ॥
kooR mittaa kooR maakhiau kooR ddobe poor ||
(ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਛਲ, ਪਰ ਇਹ) ਛਲ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਸ਼ਹਿਦ (ਵਾਂਗ) ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਹ ਛਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਡੋਬ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।
False is sweetness, false is honey; through falsehood, boat-loads of men have drowned.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਾਝੁ ਕੂੜੋ ਕੂੜੁ ॥੧॥
naanak vakhaanai benatee tudh baajh kooRo kooR ||1||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ) ਅਰਜ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਇਹ ਜਗਤ) ਛਲ ਹੈ ।੧।
